I upgraded to the last firmware (JSOD), tried 3 types of media, defragged my hard drive, went from nVidia back to the Windows IDE drivers, and I'm still getting "Unspecified Recorder Error." I'm using Nero 6, Windows XP Pro SP2, AMD 3000+, 1 gig of RAM. The DVDs that I'm predominately using are RiData 16x DVD-Rs (4.7gb). I generally burn at 16x and there seems to be no real difference in the failure rate between 16x and 8x. I have also tried Staples and Imation DVDs. What generally happens is that my burner will work for a bit and then stop. Once, I burned probably 10 .ISOs (all I've been burning are .ISOs created with DVD Shrink 3.2) in a row without a failure, but I've also tried half a dozen times without success (and I don't think the images are bad, because they've not worked and then worked later). What it'll do is burn until the end, seeming like everything is ok, and then at the end it says "Unspecified Recorder Error," then "Could not perform end of Disc-at-once," then "Invalid Write State," then "Could not perform end of Disc-at-once," again, and finally "Burn process failed at 16x (22,160 KB/s)."

Any suggestions? I have not yet tried swapping it to a different computer. I lost the box to it so I don't think I can RMA it.  :(

Here's my Nero log:

if the drive is under warranty get it replaced.  if its not buy a new one.  dvdrw are dirt cheap now.

all my sony drives have died a week out of warranty

so far my liteon have been the best.   LG have been good drives too

I don't wish AOPEN  drives on my worst enemies.   also known as acer open.   don't ever buy their cd-rw  or dvdrw  drives they are CRAP
