Something weird is going on with my computer. When I do a Google search, the first 2-3 times I click on a result I get redirected to some other site (generally having to do with online shopping or pharmaceuticals). After the first 2 or 3 the rest come through okay, but if I do a new search it starts over.

MS Windows Defender is not picking up anything wrong on my computer. What should I do?

You probably have some spyware.  Run all the different spyware/adware programs to get rid of it.  If that fails, back up your data, re-install Windows, and then re-install all of your programs.

But before you do all that, check your system hosts file.  Perhaps there's a malicious entry in there redirecting google.com to the bad guy's IP address.  The hosts file is typically located in:
"C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc"

Open the file "hosts" with Notepad or Wordpad. If you see any google.com entries in there, remove it.  Better yet, it's usually a good idea to remove all entries, except the "localhost" entry.

Quit using google, they filter out many gun related pages.

Use Ask.com instead, more gun friendly, and better searches.

Sounds like some spyware installed as a browser plugin.  Try AdAware.

pwn3d!

Sounds like a browser hijack.

If you are using IE, stop it now.

If you are using Firefox, use IE to get "hijackthis" and fix your shit.

Your browser is probably hijacked. Are you using IE?  Do you see the same problem with Firefox?

ETA: beat by 24 seconds.

I agree with the browser hijack.

Try cutting and pasting the URL into the address box, instead of clicking on the link.  Worked for me until I could resolve the hijacked browser.
