I've been finding half eaten tomatoes on or next to my privacy fence this Summer. They weren't from my garden, but from the neighbor's garden just behind my fence. I didn't know what was eating and dropping them but I guessed a raccoon until tonight.

I just spotted this very shy and hefty squirrel sitting on the fence post eating a tomato so the mystery is now solved. When it ran away after finishing the first one when I scared it, it came back with another tomato. What a pig-squirrel!!! One isn't even enough for it!

Sorry about the bad pics. It was right at sunset and the thing wouldn't let me within 75' without running, so this was the best I could with 12x zoom in low light and no tripod. I need to learn this camera better...

Same time, right at Sunset, but I got a little closer. Like one poster said - looks like a pregnant female to me!

It just kept going to the neighbor's garden and getting more and more to eat!!!

I reject your thesis until I see a John Deere cap.

I like to watch squirrels in my back yard eating their acorns and stuff, but if I had ever put out a garden with people food ................ genocide.

People food /= squirrel or rabbit food. Genocide, ethnic cleansing, extinction.

I've seen squirrels do some pretty amazing things. I once saw one hover in mid air...also saw one fall from a tree at least 45-50 feet up, get up and take off running like a bandit.

You just know some hawk is definitely watching his ass!

Eat away buddy, life is short.

They hold their food in their mouth when they climb.

I've never seen this squirrel before tonight. I have a walnut tree in my back yard and lots of lean squirrels stop by to eat and let me get within 20' or so before running. The tree isn't producing this year but the lean squirrels still stop by. This one didn't like me near at all. Maybe because it can't run fast? Maybe tomatoes make them fat? Maybe it's eating the neighbor's dog's food? No idea, just thought I'd share this discovery since it's been making me curious all Summer. Mystery solved!

I've never used the BS flag until now, not ever. There is NO WAY that fat ass squirrel can run from anyone or anything without having a stroke and a heart attack!

Are you doing some weird DNA recombination experiments with your tomatoes?

Link Posted: 9/19/2009 4:00:07 PM EST
Well yeah he's eating tomato's, you fuckers killed Acorn!

Secret squirrel serious here! He ran away across the top of the fence after the first pic, and he dropped the mater and snuck down the backside after the second pic with the new tomato. And I never even noticed it was a guy until another poster mentioned his, um, nutsack.

The only DNA experiment I'll be doing is if TSHTF and I'm eating his DNA for dinner!

Holy hell, what a fat ass.

1. Live trap
2. digital scale
3. ???
4. Profit

That's one big MFer. We had a pet squirrel for a few years that would eat ANYTHING, including drinking mom's Dr Pepper. He wasn't THAT big. Damn.
Link Posted: 9/19/2009 4:31:22 PM EST
That tomato would just enhance the "red mist" aftermath in my backyard..

OHHHH LOOK....the squirrel is holding up a target just for ME !!!!

I'd shoot it.

I hate squirrels. HATE them.

That one would be an easy target.

I'm thinking 40 gr. VMAX at 3800 FPS.

It seems to have a predictable routine thus far. I'll keep it in mind if I get hungry, but for now I wouldn't even use my pellet gun on it because it's always on the fence and I'd be aiming towards lots of houses and yards behind it. Rule #4.

Plus, I kinda like her!

It is not disturbing your side of the fence, leave it be.

You quoted me before my edit. I have no intention of shooting her.

Plus, I kinda like her!

ETA: I really like taking pictures of nature and look forward to her coming back tomorrow. This can help me learn the manual settings on my camera, as I've only used the Auto settings on my Canon S5 IS so far. Doesn't do so great in low light like this...
