Here it comes.

WASHINGTON – The Senate's top health care negotiator says he's moving ahead on health care legislation without the bipartisan agreement he'd hoped for. Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus said late Tuesday he'll unveil a formal proposal on Wednesday, and move to committee deliberations next week. The Montana Democrat had spent months negotiating behind closed doors with a small group of senators trying to reach an elusive bipartisan deal.

Well the Dems are in charge with a fairly LARGE majority and the presidency that was won with a handy majority. Like it or not they are in the majority now I mean how much shit did the republican party jam right through without even showing the bill to the dems during Bushs' term.

Looking foward to the day when they have to own it all by their lonesome too.

Except for the turncoat R's that will vote for it so as not to Hurt their Bipartisan Cred & pray they get re-elected.

I've seen a summary of his bill. It will not have a public option. It will have funding to start up "co ops" and a whole host of regulations and taxes on the insurance industry. It will include a mandate that everyone buy coverage and handouts for people who can't afford it. Bend over.

I've read speculation that they might have some far left dems jump ship because of the absence of the public option, but I don't buy it. Commies are all about incremental advances. They'll pass this now, and when it fucks things up even more and people are even more pissed off with skyrocketing prices and long waits, they'll blame "lack of regulation" "dishonest insurance fatcats" and "the free market" as they push through single payer.

There's always one or two. That'll never change. And it won't affect the perception that this is being hastily pushed through with no real support from Republicans.

I can't wait to vote that Fucker out of office. Baucus is done for if this goes through.

I don't know, why don't you tell us. I was always under the impression that the Republicans were afraid to use such tactics.

When repubs were in the majority , there were rules in place allowing the dem party (minorityparty) to add amendments and make changes to a bill. The first thing this session of congross controlled by the dems did, was remove those rules, preventing any input from the repubs (minorityparty).

Most of everything was passed bipartisanly the first 4 years of bush's presidency, out of unity over the 9/11 attacks.

Good Luck

With opponents like Bob Kelleher (R*) Baucus will be around for a long time.

front page of USA Today:

"Healthcare bill still faces uphill battle"

The dems are trying to figure out how to placate their socialist loony left base without actually having to claim responsibility for this turd.

The difference is that the GOP never went through with the "Nuclear Option".

There will be no full vote on "reform" this year. They are scared, and will play the committee and talk it to death game until the Holiday break.

Next year, they will use the "election year" excuse. I really think this whole mess is now DOA.

The Kenyan be damned, they want to be re-elected to continue their lives of crime.

Oh good, that means we get fucked by both parties.

Ok, guys...maybe I'm naive, but how do you FORCE everyone to have health insurance coverage? What happens if you don't? Can the police just approach you, ask to see your "Papers Please", and take you to jail if you can not produce??? fine you? force you into a public option? refuse you emergency care? Shoot your dog?

thoughts?

Central registry maintained by the IRS, with fines and pay garnishment if necessary to collect. Got any more questions?

Since when is barely over half(53%) a handy majority? Seems more like a bare or plain old majority to me.

Also, ever going to address the other posters with some examples of repubs pushing stuff through? Or address the rules changes your dem buddies pushed through to stifle dissent?

What's next, they'll be "forcing" us to have yearly checkups, force us not to do activities that would be considered "risky", ie. Motorcycles, shooting GUNS, any number of extreme sports I can think of....ugh, where does it stop?

Republicans should just enact their nuclear option now. Demand each and every bill get read in it's entirety throughout every single stage the bill goes through. Each and every committee, any time it appears on the floor. Shut the Senate down for ALL bills.

Still trying to think about what the Republicans shoved through. Man, it's really hard.

I can distinctly remember the Republicans asking for support from the Dems when the Dems were the minority. Additionally I remember the Dems getting lots of attention as the minority party in both houses as if they had a majority instead. I remember bills weren't going anywhere (and didn't) until the Dems were happy and in some cases the compromises killed the entire purpose of the bill. I can also remember several bills such as the education thing and of course Campaign Finance Reform being bipartisan projects all the way when the Republicans were in majorities and in some cases most of the bill(s) were written and approved by the Dems.

Of course I may just be out of my mind but I even remember the Dems voting for the Patriot act (several times) and of course that evil war(s) and additional funding. Many, that's crazy, but I still don't remember when the Republicans shoved something through WITHOUT ANY DEMOCRAT support, conferencing, or drafting.

This bill isn't going anywhere. Baucus is probably the only one in the Senate that supports it.
