Long story short, we live in Missouri, and the Joplin Tornado has hit close to home(relatively speaking). My daughter, son and nieces have been running a Lemonade Stand. We live in a rural area, on a gravel road, with few travelers to speak of. All In all, after my daughters initial investment of $7, they made $20.
I get home tonight to see a letter my niece(10 years old) and my Oldest daughter(7 years, she is also my oldest kid) have written to the citizens of Joplin.
"Dear Citizens of Joplin
We are splitting our profit from our lemonade stand and sending the money to you. We may even send some boxes of food, clothing, school supplies, toys and much more. We, will also send shoes and anything else that we do not need.
We feel very sorry for the citizens in Joplin that got hit by the tornado. If there is anything we can do, just write back
Sincerely,
Lilly and Nahni
I saw this letter and got all choked up. My wife and I try like hell to raise our kids right, in this FUCKED UP WORLD. Knowing that my kid would give up half of her money, and all of her stuff, to complete strangers, lets me see my efforts aren't futile. It also gives me hope, that MAYBE this country has a future. This letter was unprompted and a COMPLETE surprise to my wife, brother and I.
We are going to match their donations 200%
Just thought I'd share.(beats all the doom and gloom anyhow)
