Met the guitar player from Oingo Boingo- one of the best, IMO! THE absolute best, though, was Bonnie Raitt. Got a personal autograph for a good friend of mine wishing him happy birthday.

Dolly Parton, Eddie Levert (of the Ojays), John Pauper, Kevin Bacon, Maria Carey, Brenden O'brien (STP Producer), Luther Vandross....etc and so forth.
I used to work for one of the biggest studios in NYC. Many of the people I've worked with were pricks while a number of them were real honest people just doing what they love. Dolly was a trip. I met her at her limo to take her up to the studio one flight of stairs up. I said, "Well we can take the elevator or it's only one flight of stairs up...." She said, "Oh hell take the stairs, it'll help me build up my chest." Thank God I was already headed up the steps when she finished so she didn't get to see my jaw hit the floor. [:D] |

Ron Howard, Bill Paxton, Clint Eastwood, Tom Cruze, Tommy Lee Jones, Klinton and a few others. Bill Paxton very social. Ron Howard was not. Tom Cruze was super cool. Tommy Lee Jones was pissed because he thought we stole his sunglasses. Clint Eastwood said "Thank Ya Gents" after he posed for a pic with us..but still kinda stand offish. Klinton shakes hands like a girl. Went backstage with all the guys from Queensryche....Completely Badass. That is all the name dropping I can do...LOL.

I ran into Eddie George in a parking lot while he was trying to get directions. I met Travis Tritt and Dimebag Darrel from Pantera at 2different guitar shows in Nashville-they were both browsing for old guitars. I met supermodel Molly Sims at a drugstore 2 years ago. The town where I went to college is where she grew up and she was visiting her parents and buying a copy of 2 mags she was on the cover of. Edited to say: she is even hotter in person.

I used to be a theater stagehand and movie set carpenter. I've met many, many celebrities. While most are polite while they're in public, many of them are total assholes any other time.
The nicest celebrity I ever met was Naomi Judd. The rudest was a tie between Stephen Segal and Axel Rose. |

I met Tom Selleck at a Volleyball game. He was the first celebrity I ever met. At that time, he was a big star. Magnum P.I. was at the height of it's popularity. But that was twenty years ago. Frankly, celebrity doesn't do much for me. I meet major sports celebrities just about every year during the Pro Football Hall of Fame enshrinement. There is usually some non sports celebrities who like to hangout with famous athletes. I say big deal. They get paid to entertain people. Granted, they get paid well but wealth is no reason to get excited over anyone. I find nothing to admire about entertainers, sports or otherwise.

Steve Kupka, aka, The Funky Doctor; one of the founders/original members and Baritone Saxophone player for Tower of Power. Got his autograph once, too. J.P. Patches, Clown of the City Dump! He's a local legend around here. Just turned 75 recently and I took my little girls to meet him in person at a grocery store he was visiting to meet the kids of today and yesterday...J.P. drives a mint '65 Mustang. That's my claim to fame rubbing elbows with the rich and famous. |

My first was back in 1991. I shot an interview with the actress Jane Wyatt for the pilot of a Entertainment Channel type show. She was the mother on Father Knows Best and she played Spock's mother on the original Star Trek. She was around 82 at the time of the interview, but still sharp witted for her age. Real nice lady. Made lunch for us even. I can say that Spocks mom made me lunch :)
Met Erin Gray (Colonel Deering on Buck Rogers In The 25th Century) when she did a shoot at a studio I was managing in 1997. Also met Robert Redford, Joe Montana, Ronnie Lott, Ava Gabor, Merv Griffin and a few others in the course of my career in video production. Most of them are just regular people in a one on one. Pat Morita (from the Karate Kid) once bummed a smoke off me during a break. There was one celebrity who impressed me so much I was in awe and pretty much speechless the whole shoot. We shot a video for Louisiana Pacific Lumber with US Air Force Brigadier General Chuck Yeager (Retired) at his home in Grass Valley, CA. The General was on their board of directors and they were supplying him with the wood products to build his new house. He in turn was doing a video talking about how great their "engineered wood products"--AKA particle board--are. Recently "the biggest jerk I ever worked with' honor passed to former California governor and current Oakland mayor, Jerry Brown. Full of himself. |

I met David Spade at OHare airport, he was hitting on this girl and she wasn't biting. I met Rob Zombie and his old band White Zombie, nice people, he's not very tall. I've also met Colin Powel in the ER at Walter Reed. I gave him an EKG and he walked around shaking hands with his shirt off. I have seen every orafice of Strom Thurmond way too many times, I've even seen his poop and a picture of his brain. He's a terrible sexual harraser, none of the women nurses would work on him. I got to meet the President of Georgia sort of(just walked him in the door). There are others but this beer is clouding my memory.

Back around '70, Mickey Rooney wandered into the supermarket I was working in.
I paralled him down the next aisle chanting the limerick of the day: When I was walking to ST. Ives I met a man with 7 wives. I know this sounds absurd and looney; But this poor man was Mickey Rooney. He got pissed off and ran down the aisle to stare at me. I looked like a saint, fiddling with the cans of veggies, so he ran to the next aisle, looking for the trouble maker. Ten minutes later, I carried his purchases to his car. I wasn't impressed. There were a few others. OTOH, you young guys don't even know who Mickey Rooney is. |

My wife worked with Eric Heiden (won gold in speed skating at the 1980 Olympics) for a number of years. He was a doctor for UC Davis Med Center in Sacramento, California. Super nice guy and everyone liked him.
At the same hospital, she had the dubious honor of caring for Dan Haggerty (Grizzly Adams). Total shithead and an all-around BASTARD. I met Louis L'Amour at a book signing once. I was the last in line and actually had a chance to just BS and hang out. He was a very cordial guy. He stayed and shot the bull as long as I was willing to listen. My sister worked for the local minor league baseball team a few years back. Right after the OKC bombing, there was a celebrity softball game at the baseball stadium. They had Troy Aikman, Tony Danza, Walter Payton, and some others. Most of the people were pretty aloof, but Aikman stood out as the biggest dickhead anyone had seen in awhile (there weren't many Cowboys fans won over after his appearance). Tony Danza was a good guy, signed autographs and didn't hassle the staff. Payton was SUPER cool and hooked everyone up with signed footballs, jerseys, or whatever (his agent/manager didn't want him to, but he told her to get bent). As another aside, my wife took care of Tim McVeigh's first attorney (the one before Stephen Jones), John Coyle. He's a big drama queen. |

Shook hands with: Nixon (after a parade), Carter (at the White House), and Clinton (aboard USS Carl Vinson). Bill Gates and Sinbad at a computer trade show. Carl Malone (aboard Carl Vinson), Bobby Hull (at a shopping mall), Billy Williams (Cubs game) and Dick Butkis (who was visiting a friend of his on the other side of the block from our Chicago area home). Jay Leno (at his studio), Farrah Faucet (aboard USS Abraham Lincoln).
Saw the cast of "Friends" at an LA (Burbank) hamburger place. Probably some others in and around the studio areas of Burbank, Pasadena, and LA but don't really care that much for television. |

I met Jack Palance when I was 15 at a MacDonald's on the PA Turnpike NE extension. He was standing in line in front of us and he was cordial, shook hands etc. I was a bit intimidated, you know the whole Stark Wilson thing plus he was taller than me and had that old time tough guy look. Met Tom Kieffer from the band Cinderella. He bought a Dodge Steath R/T at a dealership I worked at. He was cool. Signed lots of autographs and we talked guitars for about an hour. Athletes; Seth Joyner, Mitch Williams, John Kruk, Eric Lindros. I met some chic that appeared in Playboy. She went to Temple and they did a profile of some NCAA girls and she was friends with a buddy of mine. Saw Mark Harmon at O'Hare.
My sister works for VNU, they are owned or they own BillBoard and her office is in the same building as MTV and JCrew. She meets just about everyone who is anyone on a daily basis. She just rode the elevator with Patrick Stewart a few weeks ago. Off the top of my head she has met Anthony Hopkins, Emeril Lagasse, Angie Harmon, Julia Roberts, Christian Slater, Sean Penn, Jennifer Lopez, Brittany Spears, Halley Berry, the guys in Creed, InSync, Blink 182, Foo Fighters, Metallica, David Bowie, tons more. She sees meets these folks and usualy has no idea who they are and calls me asking "who sings this song?" or "played in that movie?" "Well, I met him/her/them this morning." |

I've known Cal Ripken since we were in grade school - he's one year older than me.
Known Brooks Robinson even longer - he and my mom used to do charity work together in the 1960's. Haven't talked to either in many years though. I was drinking beer with Lee Rocker (Stray Cats bassist) last Saturday night. Hell of a nice guy! When I was a kid I met a few people that are very famous on this board, including Gene Stoner and Curtis LeMay, although I was too young to appreciate who they were. Stoner had been over to the parent's house for dinner many times in the early 1960's. Nont really a celebrity but I met Ken Griffy Jr. one year.
That was when he was playing for the Mariners and that season he said he would give out autographs to kids if they asked please. I met him when I went to a game on my birthday. I told him it was my birthday and asked him if I could please have his autograph on a basebal that was had a picture of him on it. He flat out said no and walked away from me. What a stuck up ass. |

Got an impromptu cello lesson from Yo Yo Ma a few years ago when I cornered him after a concert where he played Dvorak's cello concerto. A true master, and a gentlemen.

I met Joe Montana and the actor who plays Jimmy on The Practice. They were in a hotel that my wife and I stayed in in Del Mar, CA for a friend's wedding. Joe Montana is not as tall as I thought he was, and the Jimmy guy was with a fabulous blonde babe.
A buddy slid me and a friend all access passes to a Korn show a couple of years ago. I got to meet the band, as well as Pantera, who showed up with a dozen strippers from The Clubhouse. I drank with Mike Mills of REM after a concert in Philadelphia back in the 80s. I drank with Brian Setzer of the Stray Cats at an after hours joint in Philly back in the day. He's like five feet tall, and was scamming on every female in the joint. I shook hands with Lou Ferrigno of "The Incredible Hulk" on a trap range in Southern California a few years ago. He was friggin' massive. I met former US Senator Larry Pressler at a party in Washington DC a few years ago. He is friends with a guy my mom was dating. Recently I've met a couple of professional athletes you would have heard of. Pretty nice guys. |

Mom met Billy Martin (NY Yankees) at a KC steakhouse, got his autograph for my younger brother (a catcher like Martin was).
Friends dad sat next to Alice Cooper on a plane once. More correctly, he met Vincent Furnier...he wasn't "in character" as Alice. Same friend & I met & hung out with all the guys from Type O Negative..was just hanging out with the rest of the metal heads/punks/freaks next to a bus outside the hall after the concert in Lawrence, KS. Peter Steele came walking down the alley from the back theater door asked the crowd to let him him grab a bite to eat & get out of sweaty clothes first, then he & the rest of the band hung out with everyone, signed autographs, took a schnort off of the wine bottle that was circulating the crowd & were generally cool all around. Very cool guy. While waiting to go inside a different concert hall the previous summer (another Type O concert, in Lawrence, KS also) saw & met one of the guys from Fishbone, the ska group. Little brother, future sister-inlaw & I were just bs'ing around with a friend of theirs we met there by accident & this black guy with a funky hairdo walked by. I said to my brother "that dude looks like the guy from Fishbone", he overheard us & stopped, turned around & my little brother was "holy shit! it IS the guy from Fishbone!". He came over, shook hands & BS'ed for a bit. They were in Lawrence for a concert a day or so later in the week & he was checking out the local sights. Younger brother also met Glenn Danzig at some signing at a record store. 5th grade music teacher became Miss Missouri. Friend's sister knew Mancow (radio shock-jock) in HS. |

And I also saw Ned Beatty while I was playing the "Brave Firefighter" game, also at Mohegan Sun. I was kind of suprised to see him in the gameroom. |

I have met Chuck Norris. Twice actually. Once at a martial arts competition. He was a judge. Before that he attended an airshow @ MCAS El Toro
My previous employer, being in LA, had a division in the bank that was called the Entertainment Group. They dealt with folks in the entertainment industry. In the dealing with this group. I have met in person: Ian Ziering, guy from the show 90210 Frankie Muniz, kid from Malcolm in the Middle And have spoken on the phone with: Casey Kazem David Copperfield Also while golfing @ Pelican Hills in Newport Beach. Randy Quade(sp?) Was hitting balls in the driving range next to me. Me and my buddy chatted with him about his previous movies. That boy is tall. While at clubs, although I never went up and met em. I was in the presence of Brian Austin Green(another guy from 90210), my GF at the time actually went to go meet him. She said he was a dick. While at a club in Newport Beach, Dennis Rodman walked in. This was the time he was doing that show on MTV, The Rodman Tour. He went directly to the VIP section and I did not get a chance to meet him. Ooops, how can I forget. While in a house party in Newport Beach. I met Jenna Jameson. Also while in Catalina Island for Bucaneer Days, I met another porn star. Can't remember her stage name though. I actually got cop a bunch of feelies on her. When the name comes to me, I'll post it. edited to add the name. In reading Imbroglios post on the 3rd page, it seems he has met her too. Tiffany Mynx. |

Wow, you guys sure know how to make me feel pathetic! My celeb encounters are pretty slim compared to almost everyone who posted thus far. Like Sukebe said though, they are just people. When I met Kirby Pucket I will admit I was a little in awe of his celeb status. I really don't know why though. I'm not really that big of a sports fan even. It must just have something to do with meeting someone you have known of in a good light for a long time in person.

I was born and raised in S. California, and worked in Holly wierd alot. Meeting celebs was no big deal. Finding one that impressed me was a whole 'nother story.
If you look real close, you might see me in several t.v. shows and one or two movies as an extra. |
