Not me personally, but a friend began to fear his Model 66 S&W after accidentally shooting himself in the leg with it. Then another guy used it to kill himself (long story). He traded it away happily.

I was worried the first time I shot my Krag, but only beacause the thing was 100 years old, and I had no idea how long it had been since it had been fired. I held it so the bolt would miss my head if it came flying out, turned my face away, closed my eyes, and pulled the trigger.
 Shoots like a champ.

I fired a 50 cal pistol once that scared the death out of me. I was scared the dern thing would recoil and break my nose. It didn't. I love it now. Of course, its not mine.

At the end of 3 day tac-shotgun course and 750 rounds of slug and buckshot I was little scared of my 590.
The first day I figured out the stock was too long so I cut it down but it was too late, I was already bruised. Then, after I cut it down I kept getting hit in the nose by my thumb.  Even with a rolled up towel on my shoulder it hurt and my whole left-chest and shoulder was bruised purple. |

Many a year ago I had a 16ga double that was sawed off about 12" long. The last couple of times it was shot the shells had cracks around the rim. It was destroyed soon after that.

my AR once robbed me and used the money to go on an alcohol binge
that scared me I used to be hesitant with my Mosin, but I put one of those slip on rubber recoil pads on it and it's no longer hard on my shoulder I don't think I'll ever shoot slugs from my 870 again |

I have a Win .264 Win Mag that I am scared of. It is a beast of a rifle that loves making long distance calls. Being a very flat shooter and extremely forgiving, it makes me look like a much better shot than I really am.

Screwing around with my Gold Cup many, many years ago I somehow stupidly ended up with a bullet in the chamber, safety off and cocked. Scared the poop out of me. That's why you will never find one of my semi-auto pistols stored with a cartridge in the chamber. Rule #1....even before you get to pointing and all that.

Oh, and I've got a .300 Weatherby Mag. under the beds that absolutely terrorizes me. My hunting buddy shot it twice and laid it down. I don't like rifle recoil like that.

Yes, the first time I was shooting my Broomhandle Mauser. I was worried I might put a slide in my forehead.
And I had an old sporterized Springfield that had a bad sear, every now and then the hammer would fall on the chamber. Elk hunting I learned to carry it empty and chamber a round only upon seeing an animal. I should have destroyed it but I gave it to a friend who needed an elk rifle really bad. |

Antique Remington Derringer in .41 Rimfire, family heirloom.
I knew I probably shouldn't shoot it and ought to just keep it cleaned, oiled, and on display, but I just couldn't help myself  - I mean, guns are meant to be shot, right?Worked fine, no problems - but I was very nervous before & during (about the safety of a little piece of family history, not to mention my hand...).

My Turkish Mauser's or any old Mauser. Mosin Nagant M-44's "OUCH" hock.gif I'm always nervous when shooting any of these old guns for the first time.Even though I check headspace and do a complete teardown before hand. |

If you have never shot a .460 Wby Mag, let me tell you, you should be afraid.
It puts the recoil of a .458 Win Mag to shame. I shot 3 rounds from one once, was helping a friend going on safari sight it in. Will never do it again. Call me wuss if you want, but there is absolutely NO reason for a .460 Wby mag. If .458 Win Mag won't kill it, it is immortal. - AG |

I was afraid to fire my uncle's Brown Bess the first time he let me load it myself. I was afraid that I would not pack it in good enough or something and blow the gun up.
I sucked it up and fired it, and there was no catastrophic kaboom. I ended up shooting that thing quite a bit that day.I was also a wuss when I went to test-fire my home-built AK-74. I wasn't sure what would happen, mainly due to the fact that when building an AK, it isn't plug-and-play like an AR. It takes some mechanical skill and confidence in your work. After pussy-footing around for a while, my uncle said "f*** it", picked it up and fired it. Nothing bad happened, and the thing didn't fall apart like I thought it might. It's now one of my favorite guns to shoot besides my AR.I guess you could say I have "pre - shooting a ghetto/really old gun" anxiety. ETA: I did fire my uncle's Winchester 1895 in .405 win. It was my first "big bore" gun experience. I thought it was going to kick like hell, but it really wasn't that bad. Regardless, I only shot 2 rounds through it. I was on vacation doing nothing but shooting for the entire week before, and my shoulder had a deep, dark black & blue bruise on it. I would have shot more had the bruise not been there. Shooting a .460Wby would definately be an experience.

My Dad (72) wanted me to fire the double barrel shotgun that was his grandfathers. It wasn't one of those damascus barrels. London fluid steel is what it had stamped on the barrels. I had the local gunsmith check it out. He said the bores on the barrels were a little pitted but it should do fine with anything but 00buck or slugs. So I get a few #8 shot shells and head out back. My fear gets the best of me because this is an OLD shotgun and digging out metal from my face and hands is not my idea of how to spend the afternoon. Anyway, I came up with a plan. I got behind a 12" oak and put the butt of shotgun against the other side. With my arms stretched out around the tree, I was able to hold up the shotgun and pull the trigger(s). Everything turned out fine and my dad was proud that 4 generations had fired his shotgun. |

I am fighting the urge to bring my Trapdoor Springfield to the SE Texas shoot this weekend.
On one hand, it's more than 100 years old and I'm worried about safety and spending a few days pulling pieces of a family heirloom out of my face and shoulder. On the other hand, it's a freakin' .45-70. Yee-haw. I might just go buy a Handi Rifle in .45-70 so I can shoot the boxes of .45-70 that I have. Can't let it go to waste. ETA: I did fire a .338-378 once. ONCE. Owwwww.........

I have a really lightweight Benelii Nova Tactical, with the 18.5" barrel it doesn't hardly weigh anything.
It can also chamber 3.5" shells. Someday curiousity is going to get the better of me. |

i have a 870 super mag, with 3.5 inch chamber, let me tell you that bastard just about knocked me flat, i will stick with 2 3/4 or 3 inch shells unless necessary

I guess I am a pansy, but some guy hot loaded some 45-70 and put it through a springfield trapdoor (remake, not original) with the steel butt plate.
Fuckin' hurt. That 460 is insane. Just remember, the tighter you pull it into your shoulder, the less it will hurt. Or, you could go arab style and hold it 2"s off your shoulder. Yeah, thats the ticket

Not as of yet......I own a 50 BMG rifle and have shot the 500 mag.....some guns I have shot I would not want to put 100 rounds through.....But never afraid of any of them

I've been trying to decide between the 458 Lott and the 416 Rigby in a #1. I want one big bore in my collection just for grins and giggles and I've always loved the Ruger #1. I had one in 300 Win Mag and it's the only rifle I've ever regretted selling. It's a classy look and a strong action. |

Not afraid of mine, I keep them on the straight and narrow. Now there was a SW 629 44 mag I saw at my local gun shop, scared the shit out of me. The single action trigger pull must have been less than 1 lb. Heck, if you fart funny the hammer would drop, waay to dangerous in my opinion.

Yes. For some reason I thought I needed a .50 cal BMG upper for my AR. I bought a "Ferret Fifty" upper and shot it one afternoon. Despite the elaborate muzzle break and a slip on recoil pad, it knocked the shit out of me and my shooting buddy and a flame the size of a bushel basket came out both sides of the end of the gun.
"Remind me why we are doing this" asked my friend, and I had to wonder. I got rid of it after that. I am sure it is a fine product, but just not for me. Neither are those giant bullets, either. |

I bought a box of .44 mag at a gunshop/range and shot a 629 (wood grips). No fun, but I finished the box- it was an indoor range, the muzzle blast was a trip. Big fiery donuts. I do have 21 3" mag 20 gauge shells anyone here is welcome to have. I shot their buds out of a Merkel double barrel and I can't figure out why anyone would do that combo. A few years later I ran into a guy pheasant hunting with that same situation (arrived late, those were the only 20 ga. shells in town). Man, was he whining. |

I had a cheap .22 revolver that was not timed right so I was scared to crap it woudl blow if I kept shooting it.
Other than that I am not scared about any of my firearms for recoil or anything, I always looked at it as the bigger it is the more fun it will be

Yeah, recoil and muzzle flash is scary at first, a hair trigger regardless of either made the back of my hair stand up. The cool thing about a 44 mag with max loads? Pick up a 357 or any other gun with less recoil and flash and it'll feel like a .22

My AK74 when I built it. I thought it would come to life and run amock!
Actually, I was worried it would blow up in my face (the barrel was nicked [slightly] from drilling rivets too deep). Runs like a charm, going on 5,000 rounds. |
