Have some words been "redefined" to have completely different meanings?

I am speaking of a word like "Patriotism" I'v always thought it was a "good thing"

IMO in modernspeak it would be something like: Patriotism=support for host country

Now it is being used(by liberals and even some "people" on this board) as a "bad word"

Someone even used it describing a classroom of children giving the heil hitler salute to an American Flag

As a right wing gun nut how do YOU feel about the word Patriotic or Patriotism

Do they denote a hitler-type controlling atmosphere of control, or happiness for being in a specific country?

Patriotism means loyalty to ones country.  Literally, it means loyalty to the land or place.

Country does not mean government.  Patriotism is not necessarily support for the government.

The British subjects in this country in 1776 were patriots because they were loyal to their home, not their government and King George.

Maybe its just my ears, it sounds to me like it is being used as a dirty word these days

You're thinking of the international socialists whose first loyalty is to the revolution.  Guys like the Progressive Caucus in congress (formerly the Progressive Socialist Caucus).
