Wife and I were discussing a hatchback.  We have a 3 y/o daughter in a child seat.  It occured to me that if we were rear-ended in a hatchback it would be horrible for anyone there.

I am unable to find any information online regarding rear passenger safety in a hatchback.  All crash tests are front or side impact.  Does anyone have any info on this?

Is it a FORD PINTO?

I'm not talking about exploding.

And no, I'm talking about Modern hatchbacks for sale now.

I can't see how riding in the back seat of a tiny car with your head 6" from the back glass could pose  any danger whatsoever!

Are you worried about the large amount of glass?  I got a bad cut on my neck while riding in a Pinto that was rear-ended.  Modern safety glass is safer now, so I wouldn't worry as much about that problem.z

Getting rear-ended is unsafe, no matter what vehicule or sauna you are in.

I'm not sure the glass or what it was made of would concern me if I were riding in the back seat of one of these glass coffins when I noticed a semi's bumper about two feet from my nose!  And at 70mph in the rain!
