I recall a while back that although 2300 guns were traced back to civilians in the USA, nearly 100k AR rifles were traced back to the Mexican govt by way of uncle Sam.
Are those the ones that are "untraceable," and actually account to for 97% or more of what is in the hands of drug cartels?
Just wondering if the larger number is actually tracked, or, gets hidden away to avoid bad publicity for the manufacturers.
ETA: Here is the link to the original article that discussed the 100K of weapons from the US, but, it only hints at where these were traced to.
If they recovered 100s of M4A1 rifles with grenade launchers, you can't tell me those came from a shop in AZ...
Either they came from unsavory types in the Mexican army, by way of uncle sam, or were sold directly out the back.
I recall another posting that Colt Defense had won a contract to supply Mexico with 15K M4s/year ... still searching for that one.
