Comeplete horseshit. Unless you're using it at night. But forget about seeing that little dot in the daytime. It's about as bright as a Hilton sister.

I have one on my Hi-Point carbine. After two years it still works great. The dot on mine is very bright when set on the higest setting. I sometimes have to turn it down a notch or two on less bright days.
+1 I USED to have a BSA reddot on a 10/22. You could dry fire the gun and watch the red dot move inside the tube. The dot would never stay zeroed. And BSA has a great warranty on their pieces of shit. They want you to eat shipping to them, and then include $10 to send it back to you. I'm sorry but if you sell a fucked up piece of shit that does not work right from day one, it is your fault, and you should do whatever is necessary to honor your warranty and make sure your customer is not out money. Do not buy BSA products! |

Yet somehow a $20 used BSA 4x scope has been the greatest cheap scope I've ever had. It had better glass than you would believe when compared sidebyside. And it's held a zero pretty well too. I can shoot 2moa with milsurp & 1moa with hornady. Not bad for a cheap scope in a cheap mount on a dpms...
Better than leapers, better than ncstar, better than a facog I used to have. Best. Cheapscope. Ever. But avoid their red dot like the plague. |
I have one I bought used for $20. I have it on a 16" A2. It does what it's supposed to do.
Yep, cheap in a trailer trash sorta way. I didn't expect a Trijicon when I bought it. I expected a $20 disposable scope. Trouble is, it hasn't failed in performing through over 1000 rds. |
My wife bought me one a few years ago, it has worked fine mounted on a saiga 7.62X39 rifle, untill I decided to take it off and mount a scope. The dot on mine was more than bright enough to use in daytime, and it held its zero fine.
I had a cheapo BSA scope that I wouldnt bother lighting a match to burn the entire factory down, it was so worthless. I wouldnt walk accross the street to spit on it... I avoid BSA becuase of that little mishap |
Yup they are pretty much junk, however $29.00 gets you pretty close to a nice bottle of Knob Creek
Also navajogunowner, tell us how you like the carbine you got for christmas.
I have one mounted on a full auto MAC10 and have no problems with either the brightness or holding zero on semi-automatic. I also had one mounted on an AR15 until I got an Eotech and no issues there either.
The BSA red dot that I had mounted on my 16" AR held fine and was plenty bright. I took it off that and stuck it on a Mossy 500 for my son to use deer hunting last year and it held fine. But it's an older one. I've got (2) BSA Sweet 17 scopes (one for an HMR and one for a Mach II) that hold zero, BUT every other piece of shit BSA that I've had has either fogged up, dropped the reticle, won't hold zero, won't adjust, etc....
It seems like the older scopes were OK for el-cheapo's, but all the new ones are absolute CRAP. My uncle was a BSA dealer and I used to get mine at cost, and even then they are nothing more than a waste of money. IMHO |
I've had one and I was unable to use it outside in the daylight.
I bought one to practice with to see if I would like a red dot sight.
Mine would not hold zero beyond about 50 rds. I later bought two Trij Tripowers. |
Mine works great at 50 yards on a CAR-15. The reticle is a little too large at 100 yards for 100 yard rifle targets but should be okay for man size.
Buy it, if you don't like it you are only out $30 , and you can put it on a .22 or something. |
Had it on my Armalite for years with no problems, good bang for the buck if you cannot afford and Aimpoint or an EOTech
I have one on Browning BuckMark. Just to play with. It's stayed zeroed these past two years or so but I don't think I would subject it to any real recoil. I've been thinking of returning the gun to stock if I can locate the original topstrap & rear sight. It's in a box *somwehere*

I have one. I have used it on an SKS and an AR with absolutely no problems.
Honestly. The only reason I don't have it on a gun right now is the fact that is does not look as cool as an EOtech, and people on ARFCOM would make fun of me. |
have one on an M/6 .22 H/.410 Scout. Third one. 1st & dropped & sent to BSA w/ the 10.00........they replaced it but it refused to hold a zero........sent that one back along w/a note that I'd already paid their replacement fee. 3rd was the charm....dead on zero, no problems whatever with holding zero or brightness. Markedly better than #1 or 2.
Quality control really seems to be an issue with any of the Chinese made products, but I have had a couple of good experiences too. You pays your money and you takes your chances! |
I had one on my 22 pistol (ramline 22 pistol) it held zero at 50 yards and was easy to see the dot in day light.
It seems most (not all ) of the posts against the scope are posted by people who never owned or used one. Also, the difference between a good scope and bad scope, i think is the same as car companies. Honda, Toyota you almost never hear bad things about, but bad companies like ford, chevy, gm , land rover, etc, some have great experiences and some have horrible experiences. In short, basically I think quality control is the difference between this scope company and someone like leupold. |
I have one on my Rock River Mid-Length. Holds zero fine plenty bright for me. I wouldnt want to goto war with it but for everything else it works fine
I built a M4gery for my daughter for Christmas last year. I put a BSA red dot on it as I was planning on getting her an Aimpoint a few months later for her birthday. The zero wandered and at times there were three red dots instead of one!
BSA=POS ETA, All your page two belong to me! |
For a little more money here is a link to a chinese made acog ripoff.
I STILL have one on my AR pistol. I planned to buy better optics, but I always spent the money on something else. On a new battery, I can see it fine on a bright day. There's no auto-off, so don't forget about it. Always check it in the daylight before going to the range. I've brought mine out on a bright day after leaving it on and ended up with no sights to shoot with.
It works fine, but I wouldn't let my life depend on it. |
I have heard the Navy Seals carry them as a back up sight. |
On their vulcan M-16s |

i have one... a friend gave it to me for free.
i mounted it on my walther G22, a rifle that happens to be a complete hunk of shit. shitty optics on an unreliable shit gun... a perfect match! on the rare occasion that i don't have severe feeding issues that make the G22 useless, the BSA red dot seems to work fairly well. |
I had one on my 10/22 for steel pin shoots, never a problem. Held zero fine and worked every weekend...
I have one on my paintball marker. It works great for that, and has taken a paintball or two directly and still works fine.
I don't think I'd ever put it on a real gun, though. |
I like it, put about 300 rounds thru it so far. Nice recoil even my kids can handle it. I would say good out to about 40 yrds w a 6" spead. Been using HSM poilce ammo and haven't had a dud. It does trigger slap the crap out of your finger though!!!!!!! But I have learned how to release the trigger with every shot and that helps reduce the trigger slap. I am going to do some smithing on the hammer and the sear plate which is what I understand can help smooth out the slap, not make it go away but reduce it a little. So far I like it, I think I will make this my new door greeter since it has a 32 round magazine. |
Its a 29 dollar red dot. What would you expect.
I got one a while back to put on an SKS, its more of a red smear than a red dot. Somehting like 4 or 5 MOA dot size. No problems in daylight. But, given the accuracy of an SKS, and the inherent problems of mounting something on a removable cover, it works fine. People will laugh at you if you mount it on a AR. Get one, enjoy it, and start saving for an eotech. |
A $29 red-dot is a fine match for a semi MAC. Of course, you will need the side-charging upper with scope rail (from Gunbroker)... |
It seems to be all over the place as far as what people have experianced.
I think I will buy it ( $29) after I figure out a cheap way to mount some weaver rails. I always look to save some money. Anyway it's wally world, just save the recipt and you can take it back. Thanks for the advice. PS anybody ever mount a weaver rail to this thing???? |
I have one on my Colt .22 sem-auto pistol. It's nice and bright and holds zero.
I'm pretty impressed with it. So far, I've had pretty good luck with BSA. Not saying that will continue to be the case, but I've been lucky so far. Sam |
Guys - it's WAL-MART.
If you don't like it or if it breaks, save your receipt and return it. It's only $29, and might just work fine for now. Bunch of optics snobs, I swear. |
Yes it's only $29.00, however optics are one of things where "you get what you pay for" there used to be a sticky in the optics area on lower end scopes. |
exact same setup with the exact same results. man i love those hi point carbines. |
Got one of those free when I bought a .22 rifle. Put it on my AR Pistol, works great, even in broad day light.
I have one one my 10/22
have a ml3 aimpoint on my AR I cant tell the difference , of course I hav'nt been to the range with either yet, |
I've got one on my Yugo SKS and 6" Walther P-22.
Can see them just fine in daylight and never have had a problem using them for plinking. Wouldn't want to use them for a life and death situation, I've got an Aimpoint on the M1A Scout and a EoTech on the AR for that, but for range work, they're just dandy. |
Amen. I've had 2 of them. 2 different rifles, and they both worked fine, held zero, and never failed. I now have Aimpoints and Eotechs. For plinking and finding out if you like or can even see with a red dot, would you rather spend $29 and be able to return it pretty quickly and get 100% of you money back or spend several hundred more and lose some on the resale? D*mn, They aren't bad sights for what they were intended for. Plinking and just range/fun guns. |
You get what you pay for? Geez - I never heard that one before. It sounds like the guy knows it's only for a plinking optic, so who cares? And who knows - it may just last several years. I hate these kinds of threads: Poster: "I'm looking to buy a cheap red dot, just something for plinking. I don't want to spend more than $75 for it." Typical reply: "Don't buy cheap. You get what you pay for." Or my all time favorite in threads where a guy asks about a cheap optic: "Get an ACOG/Aimpoint/Eotech." Yeah. That's within the budget. |
