I am wanting to get a pair of 2 way hand held radios for when my buddy and I go out 4x4 ing. It would make it loads easier for us to be able to communicate other than stopping to find out which trail, ect....
Does anyone have any experience with some of the different brands like wallyworld or bestbuy sell? Are they complete junk or worth the 40 to 80 bucks?
I figure we will only be separated a couple of miles the most at any given time but with the mountains and valleys I don't know if they would work well.

can't go wrong with Motorola or Uniden when it comes to the big box stores.
I haven't bought a Cobra or Midland in a long time so I can't say

If you're going to be anywhere close to two miles apart or more I'd just get CBs.

+1 on the Motorola I have a few that I have used in the field and they have never let me down.

Most of the time distance is only a couple hundred yards unless we hit the fire road and the speeds pick up.

I have a pair of Midlands that go 12 miles.  In uneven terrain they actually go about 8-10 miles and are very clear! Paid $30 for them on Ebay and do not regret it!
