Yekutiel Amitai, 34, who was murdered by Arabs yesterday as he sat in a Bezeq Telephone Company truck near the Damascus Gate of Jerusalem’s Old City will be buried later on today. IDF Sgt. Thanks, 9divdoc, if I had more hours in the day, I would spend a whole lot more time over at FreeRepublic.com. Those folks think the way I do! And the way we do, it appears! For some reason, they deal very poorly with combat troops. Wonder why that is?

Aug. 5, 2002 FBI team arrives in Israel to investigate Hamas bombing that killed five Americans By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS An FBI team arrived Monday to work with Israeli police investigating last week's bombing by the militant Islamic group Hamas that killed seven people at Hebrew University, including five Americans, a U.S. official said Monday. U.S. President George Bush has been sharply critical of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat for not cracking down on militants, and Hamas is one of three Palestinian factions on a U.S. list of terrorist groups worldwide. However, the United States has so far not sought to extradite or prosecute Palestinian militants involved in multiple attacks against U.S. citizens, according to Israeli and U.S. officials. With last Wednesday's bombing in Jerusalem, Palestinian attacks have killed 15 U.S. citizens and wounded 26 in the nearly two years of Mideast violence, according to the U.S. Embassy. Palestinian groups do not appear to have specifically targeted Americans. Some victims had dual U.S.-Israeli citizenship and were more rooted here than in the United States. However, those killed at Hebrew University included visiting students staying for only a few months. Asked whether the United States might seek extradition of the Hamas bombers, U.S. Ambassador Daniel Kurtzer said, "I think we will talk to the Israeli government about this in the days ahead. We have an excellent relationship with Israel on all matters relating to the war on terrorism." The U.S. designation of Hamas as a terrorist group means its members can't get U.S. visas or operate in the United States. Last December, a Texas-based charity that the Bush administration linked to Hamas, the Holy Land Foundation, was shut down. But the United States has been content to allow Israel to deal with militants who killed or injured Americans. Tens of thousands of U.S. citizens live in Israel, many with dual citizenship. There are a similar number of Palestinian-Americans. By comparison, the U.S. government took a much stronger position following the killing earlier this year of U.S. journalist Daniel Pearl in Pakistan. The United States had requested the extradition of Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, the convicted ringleader in Pearl's killing. But Washington hasn't insisted on extradition following the death sentence handed down by a Pakistani court last month _ a verdict the United States endorsed. In Jerusalem, the four-person FBI team will visit the site of Wednesday's bombing, and while Israeli security forces will be leading the search for the Hamas bomber and the organizers, the two sides will pool their information, said Israeli police spokesman Ofer Sivan. Sivan said he believed it was only the second visit by an FBI team to investigate violence during the current round of fighting. Hamas said it wasn't targeting Americans, though the cafeteria is a gathering point for foreign students. There's a large American presence year-round, particularly during the summer session that caters to international students. Shortly after the bombing, a leading Hamas official, Abdel Aziz Rantisi, said it didn't matter that most of the dead were Americans. "We are fighting on our occupied land. We didn't go to America or France," Rantisi told The Associated Press. "It is better for America and France to advise its citizens not to go to areas of war." Later, Rantisi expressed regret. "They are American citizens who just came here to visit," he said. However, he said he was referring only to "pure" American citizens, "not those who have dual citizenship." One victim was an American-Israeli, Dina Carter, 38, who immigrated from North Carolina 12 years ago.

But there is no connection between the PA and the terrorists attacks. (insert sarcasim here) http://www.idf.il/english/announcements/2002/august/2.stm#1 A Laboratory for Manufacturing Explosives was Discovered in the Building of the Palestinian Legislative Council in Jenin. Today in the morning hours, an IDF unit discovered an explosive laboratory in the Palestinian Legislative Council building in Jenin. IDF forces discovered 300 kg of improvised TATP explosives, 150 kg of fertilizer, and 30 containers of acid inside the laboratory. Units of the Engineering Corps detonated the explosives in a controlled manner.
