The world is definitely less bright without her in it.  Jessie was 4 days short of her 12th birthday.  She wasn't a hunting dog.  She knew a fair amount of tricks.  But, what she was is the sweetest, most loving, dog I have ever known in my 50 years.  I couldn't have asked for a better dog.  All she wanted was to love and be loved and she excelled at both.  I'd like to think I brought her as much joy as she brought to me.

She, like many Goldens, got cancer and she went downhill fast.  I hated to do it, but her quality of life was not what it should be.  I know she would have done the same for me.

If I knew how to attach a picture, I would.

RIP Jessie... love you girl.

Goldens are some of the sweetest dogs and it sounds like yours was no exception.

My condolences.  Dogs become part of the family and when they pass, it's like losing a member of the family.

We had to put down our 16 year old Red Heeler a couple months back - it sucked.

Much easier to post a pick with a team membership.  I can't bring your dog back but I can give you the ability to see the team section.  Log out and back in.

My deepest condolences on your loss!  This is a reminder of how precious time is with our pals and my Koa dog will get extra attention tonight as I know he's closer to the end than the beginning.

My 3 year old GR is going to break my heart some day.  I'm already dreading that day.  He's the best animal I've ever known, with the possible exception of my old black cat Endora, who I had for 19 years.  Just a rare great cat who acted like a dog in many ways and was loyal.

Thank you all for the thoughtful words.

Caleb is a good looking dog. Jessie, too, was a cutie. I'm really going to miss her.

Looks identical to my Darby.

She was the best dog ever.

OP, don't wait to long to grieve.  Get another dog.  You'll be happier.

(also, as a life long Golden owner....I highly recommend a "doodle".  All the love and personality of a Golden, with no shedding....NO SHEDDING!!!!)

Raise a glass to her tonight.

My golden died of cancer at 9 years old.    He was a companion for my wife and I through 5 years stationed in Germany, safeguarding my wife while she was alone through two pregnancies while I spent 2.5 years on two deployments in Iraq.  He became my son's best friend and slept every night in his room.

He was a talented bird dog.  We started hunting dove when I got out of the Army and moved to Arizona.  He retrieved dove like an expert with no training required.

He died way too young, regardless of the best care we gave him.  I don't think I can ever get a golden again.

I have a weimaraner now that is great, but he's a bit of a bone-head. Every once in a while we think we want to get a golden again, but we are afraid to.

My Ella met a golden this weekend and she was very smitten. I think it was love at first sight.

The golden was just such a sweet boy.

I am sorry for your loss OP. Nothing makes you remember all the good times. I had to put my cat down today and I've been a mess.

I will raise a toast to your Jessie tonight.

Hope you get another dog soon. They really do make our lives better and make us better men.
