This morning was exciting. Went out...flak and Kevlar, gloves, eye pro, ear pro. IFAK on hand. Safety vic on hand. Setup the 60mm mortar and...ready.

Or not. My limbs are all still attached, and I'm sure having a good day.

So....awesome day. Please wear eye and earpro at all times on the range, along with any other protective equipment your activities necessitate.

Cheers!

What range were you on sir?

What's the pink looking thing in the bottom pic?

ETA: Did the tube survive?

Man, we don't have slave labor camps making our stuff like the Nazis did. There's no excuse for that. Glad you have all your digits, limbs and your head.

too many donuts?
Link Posted: 1/19/2015 2:53:34 PM EST
I hope to hell your unit armorer sends that tube out to get inspected for any hairline fractures that may result from that over charged round

I don't generally play with H.E., but I did have an HK-91 fired case ricochet off a metal roof support post and bounce back hitting me squarely in the middle my right sunglass lens. Looking at the ding, it would have smacked me in the middle of my eyeball.

The tube did survive. Said range was...

...a tree farm. This was the initial test fire of my NFA registered 60mm mortar. The pink looking thing at the bottom is the mangled 28ga blank that was the base charge for the round. 75 grains of Titewad. Apparently I need to drill larger gas ports in the fins.

Fucking NFA.

I should face a tough choice every weekend whether to shoot a mortar match or a belt-fed match.

Tail stayed in the tube, sheared off and the round went off on it's own. At the elevation it was at...the round went much farther than it should have all things considered.

Do you actually have a design that you are copying, or is this trial and error?

A guy here local has an 88mm flak gun on a carriage. Don't know if it's still demilled or not.
