HR withheld wife's resume from prospective employer
The Head Nurse called up my wife asking why she hadn't applied for a position months back.....Problem is that my wife had in fact applied and phoned them about a job, however the resume and phone calls were never received by the head nurse doing the hiring. The HR dept must have trashed the resumes phone messages |

Whenever hoping for employment, play dirty and expect others to Arock your ass at every chance. People are fucked up when it comes to hiring and firing.

Did she keep copies of the application, emails, etc? One thing I've noticed with online application systems is its easy to overlook a crucial step. You can fill out everything but if you don't hit the submit button it may go nowhere. Normally you get an email confirming receipt of the application. And depending on the company and how many apps they get, HR may have screened them, determined for whatever reason your wife's wasn't what they were looking for, and didn't forward it on.

I suspected foul play and had my wife send a followup letter USPS with signature confirmation ....Now we know we've been double crossed

Need to check with HR then. Don't be surprised if you get some variation of "didn't get it" "have no record of if" or "it was past the deadline".
Wow, paper application. Those are getting pretty rare. |

Please don't call my boss I wasn't implying its the boss that is doing it. I have met some real winners in HR that hire and fire based on their "feelings" about an employee instead of their qualifications, work ethic, and ability to work with customers. Top this off with pure incompetence and you end up with the employment situation the OP is describing. If you aren't hand-delivering things to the boss, then you send it registered mail or by courier and get a signature. "Playing dirty" was a poor choice of words. I guess "be aggressive" is a better choice. Never trust anyone's word that they sent the paperwork to the proper destination. |

There used to be a person in HR at Georgia Tech who was well-known for sabotaging job applications by people of the wrong color or gender, it got to the point that managers would tell prospective employees to copy them on any applications so they'd have a solid basis to go back to HR and ask for a prospect's resume and application. Tech eventually had to start using professional hiring companies to find qualified IT workers because none were getting passed the HR screening. One of my ex's coworkers was told by that person that she didn't know how he'd gotten hired but he certainly wasn't going to be moving to any better positions, but the odds of anybody doing anything about a black female behaving in such a manner were fairly low at the time. No clue if she's still there, but the Democrats aren't in power anymore, so she may not be able to get away with that crap, but I couldn't afford the pay hit to work in a university now, and especially don't want to be in downtown Atlanta.

In my experience as a hiring manager I can tell you that HR departments are pretty much universally incompetent. My wife used to work as a recruiter and her opinion of them is even worse. |

i got my current job after HR threw my resume in the trash.
i had the manager's email address, had sent hinm a resume directly as well. He asked HR about me, and they told him that they felt that I wasn't qualified. He handed them a copy of my resume and said, "Hire him, he's actually a good fit". |

How about HR is just completely inept and incompetent? It's more than that. Many are hateful, evil beings bent on spreading as much misery as they can. All while maintaining an icy, "politically correct" demeanor at all times. |

Having worked at a few Hospitals and involved in my Department's hiring process, it's been my experience that HR's are more incompetent and lazy than malicious. |

If your wife was handed an application by the head nurse, she should have given it back to the head nurse. At least a copy of it. That's called an "in."

Hr is for suckas
Circumvent them to obtain any position of consequence Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Have her call and talk to the HR manager and ask whats up. If there is anything that indicates that it was INTENTIONALLY withheld...check with a lawyer and see what can be done. Might be worth the time and bucks for a consultation

ALWAYS speak to the head of the department that has the opening and personally give them a copy of your resume. Try to get an interview with the same. |

It often helps to slide a $20 spot to the HR Generalist when you drop off the resume.

Had the samething happen at my former company. They had the whole post the job, apply for it, taking insiders first then if they can't find someone go outside the company. A guy I work with and myself applied for a VP job, both of us had almost 20 years each with the company. No interviews or discussions then one day the new VP was announced an outside hire with no expirence. Exposed the whole shame for the rest of the employees.

Our HR lady at work tried to tell me that I was loading steel into a rack a dangerous way with a forklift. Like she had any clue at all about what I was doing. My supervisor just rolled his eyes. LOL.

I must have gotten really lucky, but I had a great experience with HR here.
I was trying to transfer to another dept, and the new boss wanted me bad as I was a perfect fit. The HR rep actually helped me massage my CV to meet the minimum quals without outright lying. |

I have to weigh in on this...
Background: HR professional in the healthcare field with 10 years of experience and more certifications and degrees than I'm comfortable posting. First... I will shoot back so bring it! Second, I agree there are many very incompetent people in the HR world, for more reasons than I have time to type. Third, Not all HR people are incompetent and many like myself play a very strategic role in the organization with the hiring of new employees being at the zenith of that role. Look at your wife’s application for anything that might disqualify her: lack of experience, job hopping, gaps in employment, non relevant experience, is she an LPN applying for an RN position or vise versa.... You cant lie on the application but you can highlight items that are pertinent to the specific job she is applying for. Is she applying for a specific job or just as a "pool" nurse? Did she list references who work at the specific health care provider? Did she answer every question on the application? If the organization follows affirmative action they can’t even look at her name or the fact she has in house references. Most of AA hiring is done on a point scale. Following a AA plan is a pain in the butt, you can have a person who you know will be great for the job but not be able to bring them in because someone “scores” higher. Don’t get show any anger or frustration to the HR department if she really wants to work there, that will destroy any chance of her getting the position. Do what you can to get the application past the clerks, helper, secretaries and other filters and onto the person actually doing the hiring’s desk. Sometimes it takes a little time, especially if they have high applicant flow. Finally, if you still want to say that all HR people are incompetent, come on over and I’ll tell you some stories about employees and managers that will first make your jaw drop. |

Try to get a job as a state technician for a military aviation facility. Even if your in the unit, and have 4 times the experiance in hours and flight time, you will still compete with the "on boards". Its not who you know, its who you blow, we all know it.

Something similar happened to me once: an internal application to another department (company policy is to encourage) was squashed by HR. Policy is to inform current management structure –– who made unhappy noises, to which HR responded by disappearing the application.
Happily, the hiring manager in the new department asked a friend why I had not applied –– I had, of course –– and a new resume directly to them routing AROUND HR got me the interview/job. Good luck. I hate internal corporate-political BS. |

I called the head cheese about moving up a little bit. He discussed it with the shop foreman in the other shop. My boss told me they hired someone else. Come to find out, my boss was told about the situation from the big guy and he said, "Oh, he isnt interested in the position anymore, he wants to stay in my shop." Got the royal ass fucking. |
