I have built several "hidden rooms" and "false sliding walls-bookcases" for people over the years. I actually have the similar I built in my house.
Consider something like that. |

Look at the top of your kitchen cabinets. Depending on how they are made you may have a few inches of space there between the top of the cabinet and the top of the face. One apartment I lived in had that and I cut boards to fit between the wall and back of the face that stood about 4" above the top of the cabinets. If you cut them carefully so they friction fit they look like the top of the cabinets. Set some plants or whatever on top to complete the job. |

Most bedroom closets, the ones with the sliding doors, have an area above the door where you can screw in brackets to hang a rifle or a shotgun inside the closet above the doors.
Opening the closet door and looking in, you will not see the firearm unless you stick your head in the closet and look up. That's a good spot. Most people don't think to look there. |

Before I had a gun safe, I used to hide a handgun in my kitchen and bathroom trashcans under the plastic bag liner. The logic being, what burgler is interested in the contents of a trashcan.
Also, if you have a hide-a-bed couch, you can fold a rifle or three in with the matress. The backs of couches could be modified to conceal a couple of rifles or shotguns too if you know you way around apolstry. With some work you can hollow out a storage area in a mattress box spring. Waterbeds are as popular as they used to be but there was a lot of space under them that could be used to conceal a rifle. That is, if you have a waterbed. |

If you're in a house, put your firearms into VCI baggies, and stash in the first floor floor joists... ie the ceiling of your basement.
Tack a couple of "one by's" across a few joists, and throw pieces of scrap lumber up there. Stash the toys on top. Invisible from floor level. Removing the kick plate from kitchen cabinets is anopther stash spot... but make sure it's not a weight bearing piece (cheap cabinets). |

A lot of book shelves have a hollow area at the bottom. The panel in front is usually held in place with dowels. You can cut the back of the panel where the dowel holes are so that the panel will come off from the front. This is a good spot to hide anything, even a rifle if the shelf is wide enough.

Got a dog? How about a dog crate? Cover it with a blanket and wire a small ledge 1/2 way in. Gun goes on ledge. Hollow doors, cut off part of the edge and slip a handgun in it. wire a gun inside the freash air return cover. [warning: it'll get dusty quick tho] Slip a rifle behind the top of a curtain [bigger window] use leather ties. This works best when you either have a dbl curtain set or blinds behind them. Just leave blind partially down so insiders can't see it.

Small frame pistol. Put into a sandwich bag. Put a desicant bag into bag with gun. Wrap in another bag. Grab empty peanut butter jar, put wrapped up gun into jar. Put jar into toilet tank resevoir.
Cuts down on your water bill too. Or you could always use a bracket to Hide-a-gun I've also seen these handgun picture frames quite a few times. EDIT: I have also seen false air vents around as well. Looks like a normal vent but it is actually a storage space. I LOVE the sliding door closet idea. |

Also...clothes dryer under a bundle of clothes...what thief would look there? (I know several people who have thwarted burglars this way for valuables when on vacation) False walls are not that difficult to build, but can be a bear if you want to access them regularly...as in hide the guns permanently...with no evidence.

Yeah, threads like this do potentially expose information otherwise un-available to a criminal element, but you know, the vast majority of criminals don't tend to have even free memberships at ARF.com. As a matter of fact most criminals would rather sell a computer for their next meth/crack fix than pay for internet access. We're not dealing with rocket scientists here. Rocket Scientists tend to have things like jobs instead of drug addictions. |

 .....Attics are always good too. Not all that accessable but burglars don't generally explore attics unless they know something is there or they have a whole lot of time on their hands. |

Final post in this thread from me. WHITE_WOLFE, imagine that you are a burglar. Then walk into your house wanting to grab as much valuable stuff as quickly as you can and get out. Unless the burglar actually knows you have guns they will be looking for electronics and jewelry. If the burglar is looking for guns then they probably know you and you thought they were someone you trust but have turned out to be untrustworthy. Burglaries can be be roughly categorized into three groups. Group A: This is the most common. A drug addict breaks into a random home in search of something he/she can sell fast for a fix. Group B: Someone you thought was a friend breaks in to steal what they know you have and where you hide it. Group C: Professional Burglar that most of us don't have to worry about because they are not after electronic equipment or guns. They are after diamonds, real as apposed to costume jewelry, cash and priceless works of art etc. Group A, is pretty easy to deal with. Group B, is a bit more complicated. For example when I was in highschool I knew this guy who along with his brother burglarized his own parents house, in which he lived, while they were on vacation. Group C, gunowners generally don't have to worry about the Group C burglar. We are not a target for them. Since my group A, B, C examples are generalizations there will no dounbt be exceptions that I am sure will be posted but I think I've pretty much covered all the bases.l A lot of good ideas were posted here. Use them to your best advantage. |

as mentioned, waterbeds--- if a person had a spring mattress in there instead of a water matress, the spring matress can be flipped up easily, and the plywood underneath that pulled upward, revieling the gun. worked for me one time, gun wasnt found. futon couches- behind the upright part of the matress., ive stored a rifle there, had people sit on the couch and never know its there. heating ducts- ive stored a shotgun in the heating duct in the past, remove two screws and slide it out at an angle- of course it has to be well wrapped to keep the dust out. i used to store a Glock underneath the dresser drawer where you pull the drawer out, that also worked for me, gun wasnt found. those are all the EASY ideas i have... i dont keep guns in those places anymore caus ei have a good heavy gunsafe now. |

I know it's not quick or easy, but I took a few B.O.B. supplies, an SKS, and 20 stripper clips of ammo and used the vacumme sealer to water proof the whole unit (I use that thing more than the Old Ball and Chain does, it crushes EVERYTHING!). I wrapped the whole thing in Duct tape, then I burried the package in a safe spot, now I have a ready to go "SHTF kit" about a foot down in loose "flower bed" type of soil.
On another note, my better half and I are about to get a new house and I really want to put up a false wall in front of a closet door. Who has the link to the False wall/Bookshelves? hug.gif |

Artificial Christmas tree box (cardboard).
I know it works. I was broken into years ago, and had kept my guns in the Christmas tree box as a last resort because space was tight. I had it in the closet, with some blankets overtop. They rummaged through the closet, stole some golf clubs, but skipped right past the box. |
