Hi everyone I've been getting the black screen for the past few days it all started at around 10:30 on a saturday, I was doing nothing out of the ordinary just on steam playing some Garry's Mod and then suddenly it freezes and I turn it of and the black screen appears. I can't go into safemode, I ran the disk check 3 times and I did a system restore. Now I can still log in but it takes FOREVER. So please help! I'm about to end explorer.exe so fingers crossed. The model I have is a Dell inspirion N5110 so it's okay.

what takes forever?
getting to a log in screen?
after logging in to see windows?

did you check to see what your system resources are?
memory died? so you are running on 1gb of ram?
hd full? no swap file space?

virus, something running at 100 percent cpu so you can't redraw?
or something making you disk bound?

To get to the login screen, the ram is fine, not a virus, i'm pretty sure it's the hard drive.

Un-Install the updates from Saturday, they are not needed right now

They download automatically... Microsoft

How old is the machine and how hot does it run?

Could be a motherboard issue...

Sudden freezing during game play sounds like over heating or hardware failure.

One thing to do is check to make sure any fans are running, or blow it out with a "can of air".

Stop messing with software until you check the basics.

Recent (past few months) windows updates for Windows 7 have caused some start up delays. Does it stop at "Starting Windows" with the color swirlies a lot longer than it did?

Regardless of the stupidity of running without latest patches, it's not hard to disable automatic update.

As for the OP, you've not provided enough to actually know what the problem is.  More detail.
