I absolutely despise Michael Wiener. He's unoriginal, and just plain out rude. Sometimes I don't know if he's putting on an act or if he's really that full of himself. I lost all respect for him some time ago when he had the following exchange with a caller. It occurred during the Petraeus hearing in Congress, and a caller said he's inconsistent in his views, as he was calling for the some liberal other protesters somewhere else to be treated with kid gloves (dont' remember what it was), but that the Code Pink loonies should be thrown in Jail. Wiener kept pretending he didn't hear what the guy said and kept should "What? General Petraeus's EARRING? Are you some kind of homo freak?" when it was obvious the caller said "Hearing", not earring. It was the most shameful display of cowardice I've witnessed.
[ETA] He does that with anyone who scores points against him - he simply starts berating and belittling them. Ridiculous for someone as "super smart" as him. I also hate how he always puts his audience down, but I guess some people really dig it. [ETA2] Finally, I find him to be one of the least original of the talking heads. He spends most of the time telling everyone how great he is, how it's stupid that other talk show hosts are rated higher than him, and how he's persecuted by the Brits. |

They're show men, if they were boring, nobody would watch/listen. Somehow people think this makes them fake, but they are just appealing to todays type of audience. The whole idea of callers is your bread and butter for radio. Medved is an excellent example, he ENGAGES his callers even when they're wrong. Why? So his listeners can hear the 1,2,3 steps to why that callers kind of thinking is wrong. It's much more useful information to have then what savage does. Also he treats his good callers like crap. They get a few sentences in and he suddenly takes over the conversation, stepping all over them and talking at them. He's utterly useless unless you're having a bad day and want to hear someone scream over the radio as you roll the window down at 60mph and scream and rage at the world. 
Cant say all his info is wrong, he's right on quite a few things but his delivery stinks. |
