Seems the employer already sort of had it in for this guy. Is that with or without cause? Who knows?

Anywhere I've worked, if I did something similar to this guy, I'd be given the benefit of the doubt and the police would not be involved until/unless it was somehow proven that my story was false.

The fact they shitcanned him anyway even when it was show to just be a shipping error tells me the employer is a fucking asshole (and this guy's better off elsewhere) or they never really wanted the guy there in the first place. Again, why that is is anyone's guess.

It sounds like someone stepped on their dick. Stepping on your dick hurts so much you generally don’t do it a second time.
My guess is this one is going to be expensive.

In a nutshell an employee dropped off a package with a BCM lower at the wrong shipping company and when the employer didn't see the tracking number as active two weeks later then proceeds to call the police claiming the employee stole it?  Even after the package is delivered (proving the guy didn't steal the lower), the manager doubles down and still has the employee's stuff all packed up and fired him.  The company claims they are "Tier 1"...yeah tier 1 douche bags.

The point at issue is he didn’t steal the gun. The kid as an employee was acting in a capacity as the employer’s agent. As such the employer is responsible for his agent’s (employee) actions. Calling the cops and having the kid cuffed and stuffed was the wrong course of action for the employer.

Hypothetical, if you were an FFL that routinely used tracking numbers to confirm info, and suddenly one didn't show up like normal, and it was abnormal for your business...
What would you do?

Honestly the sooner you take action the better right? It's your livelihood, your license to conduct business, and your duty.

I'll bite...I would TALK with my employee FIRST instead of jumping to conclusions.  He could have found out that the employee dropped it off at the wrong place with only a few basic questions.  Instead the "tier zero" manager turned a minor situation into a shit show.  Did I miss something?

My initial thought is how can a shipping manager not decipher a shipping label? But I guess if you really do pick up tons of boxes from piles and drop them at shippers day in and day out it would be easy to get complacent, this pile = this shipper, why bother reading the label.

Not an FFL but I worked for one for 10 years and have dealt w/ thousands of packages at other jobs.  I've seen packages never show any tracking that were delivered.  Tracking info can be odd and irregular.  I'd never fire someone for theft or have them arrested just because one package had been shipped two weeks ago, didn't show tracking info, and wasn't delivered.  It would take way more than that to fire a good employee.

I would take action IMMEDIATELY. However, I would take REASONABLE action.

I would talk to the employee. Look at his body language, judge whether his story made sense and if it was true.

I would go to wherever he supposedly dropped it off and inquire about it.

I would wait a day or two to see what happened with the package.

Going from zero to full retard like they did tells me they had it in for the guy already, or they are just tremendously stupid assholes.

You're right. Talking with your employee would have helped, not that they could verify the situation from his words or really done anything about it to resolve the problem.

The employee not being incompetent would have solved everything.

From what I can make out, black kid works at GBRS and was told to drop off a BCM lower at the post office. He was seen leaving with the box and returning without the box. His employer then checked tracking and saw that the box wasn't scanned in so they called the police for felony theft of the firearm. Police arrive and arrest him at the behest of his employer.

Cut to a new scene.

The kid is let out of police custody because while he was detained/arrested? the mailman brought back the package due to the police investigation???. The douchebag employer still fired him and had all his shit packed up in a box.

Hope kid gets paid, the employer seems like a prick.

He brought it to UPS as opposed to FedEx (or vice versa). That was the issue.

What did I miss? He made an honest (we can argue if it was stupid or not, but that's not illegal) mistake and dropped it off at the wrong place, no?

Could the employer not retrace his steps and probably learn the truth that way?

If you're the type of person who fires someone for one mistake, I'd sure hate working for you, or these assholes. However that's not the point. If they want to fire him for that one mistake that is certainly their right. The problem is CALLING THE FUCKING POLICE BEFORE DOING JACK SHIT TO DETERMINE WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED. That is UNREASONABLE.

Now what we don't know is, were they just looking for an excuse to fire him because he's a shitbird? We don't know any of that, but even if they didn't like him, calling the cops immediately like that is bullshit.

The problem is it's none of our business. Shit happens every day, no one really knows the truth until later.

Sometimes one mistake is all it takes, maybe it maifests immediately or at later date and you don't associate it. It's usually not the end of the world and you hopefully learn and move on.

It is our business in several ways. Mainly in that this was done by a COMPANY. A company I and others here might have chosen to do business with someday.

Is this the biggest injustice of all time? No. But having seen how they handled this, and apparently how they handled one of the former owners leaving, this is not a company I'd choose to do business with.

They seem to have a habit of fucking their own people over misunderstandings. Given that, what makes you think that you or I would get a fair shake from them if something didn't go just right in a business transaction with this company?

“It’s just a BCM lower”

A firearm went missing. The ATF frowns on that sort of thing. Good police call, good firing.

“How does a licensee report the theft or loss of firearms?

A theft or loss of firearms must be reported to your local police as well as to ATF within 48 hours after the discovery. Licensees should notify ATF on the 24–hour, 7 days a week toll free line at 1 (888) 930-9275 and by preparing and submitting ATF Form 3310.11, Federal Firearms Licensee Firearms Inventory Theft/Loss Report.”

They could have found out he dropped it off at the wrong place just by speaking with the employee and then called the place (where he dropped it off) to verify it was there.  Less than a two minute conversation with the employee and a 30 second call to the shipping company could have cleared this up without turning it into the absolute shit show.

As an owner of a gun business the first thing I would do is to have a chat with the employee, which is likely what happened.  After speaking with the employee the first thing that comes to mind is hey lets jump in the car, go down there, and figure it out.

Him being a fuck up is no excuse for them not asking basic questions like where he dropped off the package at.  It’s painfully obvious their tier 1 folks have no idea how to handle basic communication skills.  And they claim to be highly skilled trainers?  In what?

It literally doesn't matter, that's not how this one went down.

You could ask your employee why X happened, and they can explain it all day, it doesn't solve X. You can take their word for it, do your own investigation or legwork, hire the Pinkertons to solve the problem or whatever.
Either the money is missing, the job wasn't done, the thing broke for some reason, something wasn't delivered.

As the employer you're responsible for everything good and bad.

In this case some people on social media will be mad at them, they lost an employee, that employee was detained and had a bad day after a pretty big fuck up imho.
They didn't lose a firearm though and their customer should recieve it, which is a positive.

Well, duh.

Knowing that a company's owners are over-reactionary shit heads and that therefore I'm likely to get fucked over if I have a problem with their goods/services is a valid reason to decide that I don't want what they're selling.

If this story serves any purpose, it's to let people know that the folks running this company are probably assholes. Since their product is essentially themselves (assholes conducting firearms training), and this is a site primarily dedicated to firearms, the story is certainly germane.

Your level of caring is irrelevant.

What would you do?

Honestly the sooner you take action the better right? It's your livelihood, your license to conduct business, and your duty.

Start by asking him what he did with the package?

That's not what happened here though, and it's no bigger deal than a fast food worker being fired for not completing orders properly.

You're the one that asked what someone else would do. We know that's not what happened. Which is why it was dumb.

The ends don’t justify the means, especially in this case.  You have to take the time to ask employee about X, which doesn’t appear to have taken place and instead they called the police. That legwork you speak of is talking to the employee and finding out where he dropped off the package.  And it doesn’t appear the employer did ANY legwork, except call the police,

The fedex store gave it to a passing UPS driver, who brought it back to the originating address.  In the mean time, since the package disappeared while in his possession, he got arrested.
He got "unarrested" as soon as the package came back.  He was then fired.

If this is the digest:

The company should have better shipping and receiving SOPs - especially for firearms.

One doesn’t simply drop off a lower without some type of chain of custody record… whether that is as simple as a receipt with a tracking number.

Not saying the kid should be fired - especially if this is a first time offense. Sounds like a shit company at its core.

ETA… wait, did dude say he was “the shipping manager”? If so, their job titles are way inflated, or that would be a definite reason to be cut sling load.

If this story serves any purpose, it's to let people know that the folks running this company are probably assholes. Since their product is essentially themselves (assholes conducting firearms training), and this is a site primarily dedicated to firearms, the story is certainly germane.

Your level of caring is irrelevant.

I don't have a dog in this fight, just thought I'd point this out as a funny take, true or not.

I'm an over-reactionary shit head, and everyone here is kinda doing the same thing.

That is ridiculous. Hope they go out of business.

It is pretty normal for the post office to not scan them properly or immediately. The police were idiots to arrest for that alone, if in fact they did.

Ok so from the mouth of the accused, in the TikTok video.

He dropped off a package. It contains a firearm.

Two weeks go by according to the accused. They ask him what happened, he says “I really don’t know check the cameras”

A firearm was missing for more than two weeks, guy had no idea where it went. This wasn’t a mere hours passed situation this was weeks. They asked the guy and he admitted he had no idea.

Holy shit. The amount of what if and what I would have done in this thread is disheartening. Is there no accountability anymore?

Two weeks going by does put it in a different perspective, but I still want to know what did they actually ask the guy…just if he dropped it off or where he dropped it off?

Nothing sounds like there is evidence of theft. Being a poor employee and an idiot isn't illegal. Firing him is fine, trying to arrest is ridiculous. In the end they were wrong and it wasn't stolen.

Fuck that business. They don't deserve to be in business.

It was labeled for ups but was in a take to  FedEx slot. Employee probably never read the label.

You know this wasn't handled by the owners, DJ and Cole, right? They have over 30 employees or some shit. Some middle man in the company called LE on the dude.

I don't think "I'm not inclined to do business with this company given how they have apparently treated their own employees" (since this story also made some people aware of their previous problems with another employee) is an "over" reaction.

If you disagree, and think that people who find their actions unreasonable and who don't want to deal with them as a result, are themselves "over-reactionary shit heads" well, we'll just have to agree to disagree.
