I sent emails to all of my reps and only one guy knows or will say he knows about this bill. The two that say they don't know are Dems[rolleyes] and the one guy that is on this is a Republican[:D](no point, just think thats funny) Here is my email: Mr. Putnam, I was just told about this new bill by Mr Torricelli: CONGRESS 1st Session S. 609 To close loopholes in the firearms laws which allow the unregulated manufacture, assembly, shipment, or transportation of firearms or firearm parts, and for other purposes. IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES March 26, 2001 Mr. TORRICELLI introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the Committee on the Judiciary A BILL To close loopholes in the firearms laws which allow the unregulated manufacture, assembly, shipment, or transportation of firearms or firearm parts, and for other purposes. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE. This Act may be cited as the `Gun Parts Trafficking Act of 2001'. SEC. 2. PROHIBITION AGAINST SHIPMENT OR TRANSPORTATION OF FIREARM PARTS, WITH CERTAIN EXCEPTIONS. Section 921(a)(3) of title 18, United States Code, is amended by striking `or (D) any destructive device.' and inserting `(D) any destructive device; or (E) any parts or combination of parts that when assembled on a frame or receiver would constitute a firearm, as defined in this paragraph.'. SEC. 3. PROHIBITION AGAINST MANUFACTURE OR ASSEMBLY OF FIREARMS BY PERSONS OTHER THAN LICENSED M Gun Parts Trafficking Act of 2001 (Introduced in the Senate) S 609 IS 107th ANUFACTURERS. SEC. 4. INCREASE IN FEE FOR LICENSE TO MANUFACTURE FIREARMS. Section 923(a)(1)(B) of title 18, United States Code, is amended by striking `$50' and inserting `$500'. SEC. 5. PROHIBITION AGAINST POSSESSION OR TRANSFER OF CERTAIN COMBINATIONS OF MACHINEGUN REPLACEMENT PARTS. Section 5845(b) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 (known as the National Firearms Act) is amended in the second sentence by striking `designed and intended solely and exclusively, or combination of parts designed and intended,' and inserting `or combination of parts designed and intended'. SEC. 6. EFFECTIVE DATE. The amendments made by this Act shall apply to conduct engaged in after the 60-day period beginning on the date of enactment of this Act. This bill gose to far,it is nothing more that a bid to keep any friearms owned by Americans from being fixed should they need to be. One will not be able to keep arms that will from time to time barke and need a new part(s) This bill if made law would see a graeter need for new weapons and as the cost of FFLs will go up as well. Ever time a firearm brakes and the owner is not able to fix it or find a gunsmith to fix it there will be a large namber of them that will just buy new guns. This is not a bill that would keep anybody save or keep weapons out of the hands of people that would bring them to illuse. In order for any weapon to be made from parts somebody would have to buy a frame or receiver from a FFL dealer and would need to have a the FDLE check in order to take ownership of it. There is in no way any new weapons being made with out anybody knowing about it,so there is not loopholes Thank you very much for your time. Sincerely, Christopher Alan Brooks,Lakeland Mr. Putnam has not said how he will vote but I really hope he comes out with it soon. The point here is there may be some that don't know about this, this may be one of the handfull of times emails and phone calls could really help. Read the pined up topic on this bill and email anybody you can with this. Don't just sit back and hope the NRA stops it,this thing make the AW ban look like nothing!
