Actually, if you read the story, they are blaming the Americans for illegally selling ammo in Canada. For years now the Canadian pro-gunners have been telling fed govt that it isn't going to work etc, and of course the liberals are clamining that the system is not fine tuned enough and it that it will work. They have way exceeded the orignally estimated cost of the system, and it not even close to being completed.

"Gun control in Canada is a huge failure"

fixed it for you

From the link:

"How can paperwork solve anything. It just puts responsible gun owners who abide by the law through the hoops," said Frank Hiemstra, manager of Shooters Choice gun shop in Waterloo.

"No gun law is going to stop the murders. There is a law that says you can't kill someone. Criminals don't follow the law. If you took every gun off the street, these criminals would use a knife or a bat."

The problem with the gun registry program is it took officers off the street to do paperwork, said Wes Winkel with Ellwood Epps Sporting Goods in Orillia.

Wow, never thought i'd hear that from a Canadian.

This is the classic, canned excuse for the ineffectiveness of gun control: Blame it on "unregulated" neighboring states and nations.

As long as gun ownership is still legal in some small corner of the world, gun-banners will always have someone other than themselves to blame for their failures.

One mis-conception some American's may have ... and I've met a few, is that we Canadians aren't allowed to own any guns....
I've read stats..for whatever stats are worth... That we actually have a higher rate of gun ownership than the US...
Ownership and shooting sports are thriving up here despite the gov'ts efforts to kill us off through legislation...
I live in a suburb of a major SW Ontario city... there are no fewer than 6 gun clubs within an hours drive of my house....
Just as in the US though... whenever there's a criminal gun incident the gov't starts looking at the easiest target... the law abiding owner/shooter.
'Difference these days is that even the non-gun owners are starting to see through this BS.

I'll tell you the difference between Canadian and US gun ownership:

Guns are legal for self defense in the US.

Not generally so in Canada.

That is what makes the US different from most other Western countries.

At least in some states.
There are a few states that make it pretty hard to justify, and in DC you just have to take it like a man.

Sorry Girlieman, but CRC is right. Most states issue concealed-carry permits for handguns. You can hunt with handguns. Most states do not require special permission from a 'Firearms Officer' to buy a handgun. You can't even shoot a handgun unless it is at an indoor gun range in Canada. Don't even think of using a handgun in Canada for self-defense. Canada does not have a constitutional amendment protecting the right to 'Keep and Bear Arms". The big difference is that Canada requires registration of all firearms.

The general attitude of law enforcement in Canada towards handguns and military-pattern rifles is completely different. They have an obsessive-compulsive boogey-man attitude toward handguns.

Canada was a great place to grow up for the first 18 years of my life but I would never move back. In all fairness, I grew up in south-eastern Ontario which is arguable the most Communist area of the whole country, mainly because of the French-Quebecois influence. There was a lot more broken there than gun-control.

Well, that and that little pesky Constitutional Amendment about citizens retaining the right overthrow an abusive government...

Not so true... There is no specific prohibition on the use of a firearm for self defence.
It happens...
The only question then asked is whether or not the gun used was legal...
I didn't respond to get into a debate over ccw etc... I didn't even bring it up.
All I said is we own plenty o' guns up here... sure, for other purposes than defending ourselves from our fellow citizens, but this is a crime free utopian society we've got here

Yeah we have the Second Amendment and no one else does.

I'm pretty sure a handgun for self defense is a no no in Canada.

I have to agree.

I'm still sore about foisting Bryan Adams on us. Shania Twain does not make up for it either....not until she does a porno.

Damn straight!

That's what "Schmuky" Chucky Shumer does here in NY. He eleganty refers to I-95 as the "Iron Highway" and blames all the other states on the eastern seaboard that have "lax" gun laws for feeding guns into NY.

Chuckie, you are such a Schmuckie.....

Also, it is the exception, rather than the rule, that one has to A)register guns B) have a license to possess and pruchase them
