Talking with an e-6 type the other day I was told that the max GT score is 130. Mine is 133 from my initial Asvab so there was some confusion.

We asked around and were told by someone that your initial Asvab has a higher level that you can reach but if you take it again while in service it drops down to "even the playing field" as it were.

Anyone who has been a recruiter/meps doggie know the true poop on this?

At least when I went through MEPPS, 130 was not the max. One of the guys in my Boot Camp platoon had a 131.

I got that part Devil! My question was for the guys who want to maybe switch to a different MOS later in their career and need a higher line score so they take the test again. We are trying to figure out if that one is capped at 130.

Oh.

I have no idea.

I know a few dudes over 130, but like you, that's from their initial test. I've never heard of a cap for the retest. I'm unaware of any Army jobs that require more than 110. Most guys are only concerned with topping that. I've never heard of a dude with a 125 retaking the ASVAB, nor have I heard of anyone even approaching 130 on a retest, since most guys retesting had an original score under 100. This only applies to my limited Army experience.

I was told that 140 was the max score in any one category.

around 2005 they changed the ASVAB.  It used to be that a max on it was 130, now the max is a 150.

I have heard that there are higher maximums on some line scores as opposed to others.

Here is my breakdown. AFQT 94

GT 133
GM 138
EL 137
CL 128 <––––I suck at typing
MM 146
SC 134
CO 135
FA 134
OF 140
ST 135

So at least SOME of them go over 140

Would really like to get someone in here who knows something about this that is not the Joe News Network. There are 50 pushups riding on the outcome.

Well something is going on here.

Wiki says the test underwent a major revision in 2002 and was re-normalized in 2004 (right after I took mine).

They must be using a different scale though, since my AFQT score is a 97, yet all my composites fall between 127 and 136.

I would bet that these scores over 140 are just a matter of post '04 ASVAB and not whether or not some one is doing a FAST/retest.

I took the ASVAB in Fall of 04, and my GT is 137. I guess I got smarter as I got older.

I took it in 1993 and had some individual scores over 140.  GT was under 130, though, so I can't confirm or deny that cap.

I'm pretty sure the GT score goes up to 150.  I have buddy in the 140's.  I've never heard of anyone with a score higher than that though.
