Not kidding. Sorry in advance, mods Also per rogueboss, if you think is silly, YOU ARE A COP HATER.
http://www.recoilweb.com/airborne-with-the-countrys-first-parachute-qualified-swat-team-148068.html The HMFIC over at DSTG is both a SWAT officer and Army veteran. After witnessing the results of devastating hurricane strikes in both Key West and Puerto Rico, they began working on a grant proposal to FEMA to develop a method of training for delivering specially trained police officers directly into the disaster area. I’m sure it was a fun class but that’s fucking stupid if it was paid for out of their normal budget and wasn’t something that they funded themselves.

Ever been to Greenville? Not big enough to justify the militarization of a police force, IMO.
Of course, in my opinion, nobody is. Where do they get all the money for this? |
|
That's kind of interesting.
Not sure I agree with this capability for a Local PD SRT but I had discussed this with a state SRT years ago, in the early '90s. Even though they were divided, with prepositioned resources into 3 geographic districts across the state, there still was the occasional response lag due to a variety of circumstances. Some areas took 8 ort more hours for team members to arrive and we were looking for ways to decrease that response time. As we looked at it became clear pretty quick that while it would be nice to have the capability, maintaining proficiency and associated costs would be a real burden. I was looking at smoke jumper school out in Montana, IIRC. Be interested to understand how this team justified this capability. As with everything else in life, its a give and take. Adopting this means they gave up something else. e.g. I wonder what their explosive breaching program looks like? |

And that is why PD's need to be de-funded and their budget cut to the bare bones.
You aren't the fooking Marines or Army Airborne. |

Have we started a picture thread about what kind of pants they wear?

One hut-thousand, two hut-thousand, three hut-thousand, four hut-thousand...

Well, that’s kinda what happens when all them 11BangBangs get out.
About the only job they qual for is being a cop, and they often times forget that they’re civilians now. Over time, mission creep=huthuthuthut “we seals now!!”huthuthut |

Next: organic fixed wing CAS. Big Green will be sooo jealous.

Someone should be fired over this absolute waste of taxpayer funds.

Sometimes we get wrapped up in what we thing are noble gestures. Where were the adults in the room to tell these bunch of high school kids to knock it off?
Or am I not looking at the totality of the circumstances? |

Playing devils advocate here, but if roads are impassible due to gridlock/flooding/ice, how else are you going to reliably get into an area? View Quote Para-trained EMTs make more sense... and they don’t make much sense either. This is taxpayer-funded adult fantasy camp. |

So basically a bunch of dudes wanted to go skydiving on the taxpayers dime.

I’m sure SWATs training budget for them is set in advance like everywhere else. Rather see them go to this than CIT class or some other bs class View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes |

Are they going to airdrop command elements and supplies too? Wouldn’t a helicopter work better. Not only could they put the popo where they need to be but they can also move them and resupply all with fewer injuries.

You guys just don’t understand. It’s very popular for meth labs to be built inside castles around here, and we don’t have many ladders.

The fact that none of them have ever bothered with static line parachuting says a whole lot about its practicality. |

Going to be pretty sweet when they get their first milsurp C130.

Can't wave to the kids or get a free cup of coffee up there...
