Granite City About To Ban Indoor Furniture From Outdoor Sight

GRANITE CITY, Ill. (AP) -- Furniture meant for indoors shouldn't be used outdoors.

That's the view anyway of Granite City, Illinois, officials who are backing a new law that would ban the use of upholstered chairs and couches on porches and in yards.

Alderman Dan McDowell says room furniture deteriorates when it's left outside and becomes an eyesore.

The St. Louis-area community has implemented a number of beautification measures in recent months. City inspectors, for instance, are cracking down on property owners whose houses are in disrepair or who leave junk cars in their driveways.

Mayor Ed Hagnauer says he wants to improve the looks of the city by 2007 -- the year a nearby Mississippi River bridge is expected to reopen.

Some outdoor furniture is upholstered but I guess they like to pass laws for the sake of passing laws.

You've never seen a shithole until you've been to East St. Louis--it makes Detroit look nice. They're probably trying to keep those people out.

Nothin' like a soggy couch to squat on while lighting up your crack pipe.

This is common in college towns looking to increase their revenue, uh... I mean beautify their community.

Granite City is a shithole.
Populated by meth-heads.
The entire town is covered in ash from the iron and steel mills.
