GRAND ISLE, LA (WVUE) -

The family of a Hammond woman who was run over by a
Grand Isle Police officer while sunbathing are calling for a State
Police Investigation. Meanwhile, doctors are working to save her life.

Lindsey Gordon,
24,  has been undergoing multiple surgeries since she was rolled over
by a pickup truck driven by a Grand Isle police officer  Thursday
afternoon.  Doctors are repairing a shattered pelvis and internal
bleeding on a woman, who just wanted to spend a day at the beach.

"They
had just got there and laid down," said said Suzanne Baggett, Lindsey
Gordon's mother. "My daughter saw her coming and she screamed. She
didn't have time to get out of the way and she got rolled over."

Officer Norris Esponge was the police officer behind the wheel.

Sounds like is could be a scene from a Police Academy movie.

How could you miss a sunbather at a beach?  common sense says you are on a beach with a truck,  you should maybe look for people.  I wonder if he was supposed to even be on that beach in a truck?  I know some beaches you can.

Hopefully she recovers.  That's messed up.

I'm sure he was driving slowly, looking out for sunbathers, and not distracted by anything.

The investigation he will conduct will prove all that.

You miss a sunbather by being distracted.  You miss an F250 coming for you by having your eyes closed and possibly headphones in, because you laid down on a beach and not in the middle of a road.

It happened in Florida a few years ago. two girls got rolled over by a big pickup. Both lived, but one had brain damage and will probably never fully recover.
The driver says he simply didn't see them.

....and also out of police academy but true at the same time, it's why some departments use ATVs. Less chance for shit to happen.

Yeah she should have been watching for traffic on that beach.

What an idiot. Laying in the middle of a beach not having a care in the world.

This happens a lot in FL
at least Baywatch was smart enough to use non-lethal Quads on the beach.

If you're so stupid you run over someone laying on the beach you're too stupid for driver's license, much less a badge.

Myrtle Beach has designated drive through lanes at the back edge of the beach.  No setting up between the trash cans and the fence line at the dunes.  Lifeguards watch these areas as well as the water.

With all the crap we bring to the beach, the F250 would have sustained body damage. You're not going to miss our little spot on the beach!

He almost squashed a second woman. Sounds like more to this story.

A woman accompanying Gordon managed to jump out of the vehicle’s way and avoid harm.

A 250 has terrible visibility right in front of it. Something like a utility quad would be a much better vehicle on a beach.

Now it makes sense. Crooked police department.

The Police Department was raided in March by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, which alleged the island town’s cops had done a poor job of storing evidence and may have interfered in undercover narcotics investigations.

Last time I was down there, there was enough trash on the beach to hide a body. No way I'd lay on that shit....
