Why do so many type "Thank god" or "Thank goodness"?

Show some respect. Most here believe in God. So why do they mis-write His name?

The correct way to write His name is with a capital letter.

Now go back to your regularly scheduled cop and dealer bashing.

I didn't know his name was 'God'.

I thought it was Yahweh. JHVH, or Jehovah.

BTW, anyone read the great sci fi story "The Nine Billion Names of God?" that one gives me goosebumps.

"Thank goodness" should be capitalized? I've never heard that one before. Not saying you're wrong, but I don't recall seeing it written that way.

That's an acronym for "I am that I am." I suspect it means "I am what I am," though Popeye has co-opted that line. In any event it's not a name, or even a title, but sort of a definition or description. In e-mails, an Orthodox Jewish friend of mine sometimes refers to Him (at least I think it's Him) as "Hashem," but I have no idea what that means.

Why not simply say "Thank Darwin"?

Some people around here seem to think he deserves more respect than God, anyway...

When I thank god, I am thanking one of my many gods.
I capitalize their Names, but not the word "god".

If I am lucky, I thank Ganesh...

Sometimes I thank Lord Krisna...

Or Shiva...

Or even Kali...

Frankly, I find your patriarchal insistance that we all adopt YOUR monotheistic viewpoint VERY RUDE and offensive.
You owe us an apology.

I notice you capitalized yours'.

eta..

Most here believe in God. So why do they mis-write His name?

I didn't mean you anyhow, if you read the question.
I meant those who believe already.

Not meaning to hijack the thread, but on a related note, when was the last time you heard anyone say, "You're welcome" after being thanked?
When I hear someone say, "Thank you" after being thanked I want to haul off and bitch slap them.

I thought he/she/whatever was A god. The only god according to christians and Jews. Why just call him by his title? Shouldn't we be a closer our god than that? I call my god BEER.
Link Posted: 9/20/2004 9:41:44 AM EST
While we're being proper, we should also try to be specific about which god we're thanking. Wodan, Saturn, Tiu, Allah, the sun, the moon, Thor, Frea, Mars. Would you want to be forever known only as "Guy", capitalized or not, instead of by your proper name?

huh? What am I missing here? I thought those were all variations of the same name-- what God calls Himself in the Bible. (although I think Yahweh is Hebrew...? Don't remember) EDIT: I think "Yeshua" (SP?) is Hebrew... I don't know where "Yahweh" comes from...

Am I wrong?

You need to hyphenate Grammar-Nazi if you are using it as an adjective. You probably need to put a comma after Nazi since you are using a string of adjectives, i.e.

"Grammar-Nazi, pet peeve of mine"

However, based on what I have read from you, "I am a Grammar Nazi, and I have a pet peeve" might be clearer.

However, since I detect a religious nature in your writings, I suggest the following:

"I am a believer in grammar totalitarianism! I am posting my pet peeve related to same."

To be clear, I see it used in a less-than-respectable manner, more often than not.
I am assuming that a majority here are Christians, so odds are they should be capitalizing "God"
If the are not Christian, there would be no reason to capitalize.
I'm just suggesting, based on likelood alone, that there are christians here using it wrong.
