Also the class included Calling the Mayday and FireFighter Survival, which was awesome! I would of have been happy with that, but surprisingly I also won the Academic Achievement Award for highest academic score! Other than my kids being born and my wedding day, this has to be one of the best days of my life.

Congratulations, bro.  It's a great job.  You full-time or a volly?  Remember, every fire is different.  Stay safe!

Thanks. I am a volly. I would like to become a career firefighter, but I am 32 already and there is not much job opportunity around here in northern NY.  I have a son with autism and we are blessed with a very accomodating school district so moving is pretty much out of the question.

Damn dude, I live less than 20 minutes from there. Could've shot at Painted Post Field and Stream. You were nice to my boys downstairs, right?

The motto they taught us was "Survive, Do the right thing, Be nice", So I was nice to everyone :)  I didn't want to be one of the smart alec young guys who had to wash instructors' cars at 6:30 in the AM. Yes, a couple did have too. (I was LMAO)

Thanks! All members dress uniforms have white shirts in my department. Out of the 28 that graduated, I was the only one with a white shirt. But I did get promoted to Captain of 17-A-127 (one of our ambulances)while at the Academy, I was the EMS Co-Captain, and the previous 127's Captain moved away. (I'm an EMT-B, the need in my community was greater to have another EMT than an interior firefighter at the time I joined.)

Damn - the ink's not dry on your academy certificate and you're a white shirt already? Must be some good kneepads...

Congratulations!
