Email concerning a $995.00 RRA M4 I have for sale...
Comments: Now that the AWB is over I'm interested in your rifle for $500.00, providing the muzzle brake can be removed. The reason I'm interested in it for $500.00 is that it will cost me a couple hundred to convert it back to "normal" (what was once known as pre-ban). Of course that rifle is now available with preban features for the same price but I should still only ask for $500 right? "Oh please sir, can I please sell you stuff for HALF of what it costs me." Talk about Arkansas Economics... "Sell for below your cost but make it up in volume." At least I can have some fun with these yahoos. Edit to add: I do these rifles on a "made to order" basis and offer preban configuration at the SAME PRICE. I offered to make him one in that config for that price. |
Write back to him, and say: "I will happily sell you the RRA M4 for $500.00...providing the $500.00 is acompanied by $495.00"
God he's persistent.
After explaining to him that the rifle would now be offered in PREBAN config for the SAME PRICE... Comments: Not to "bust your stones" any further, but you have to realize that you now have a rifle that no one is going to want to buy. Why pay 925 for this "post ban" rifle when I can pay 925 (quite possibly less) for a "preban" weapon. Unfortunately you and quite a few others are stuck with rifles that aren't going to sell. Am I taking advantage of the situation...sure I am, just like any shrewd business person would do. I've sent similar bids to numerous GA sellers for their weapons as well. Everyone is going to realize that can't sell their post ban rifle for what they're asking, because people aren't interested in them anymore. Yes nobody in "behind the lines" states will ever buy one of these ever again. It is worthless. I'm just gonna burn them all rather than sell them at such a loss. |
"Sure I'll sell it to you for $500! While we're at it...why don't come over to my house and f*ck my sister!"
Some people really should not own guns....or maybe I should say...they should be restricted to owning pimped out SKS's. |
You're just mad because your Star Wars comics aren't worth as much as you thought!
Ask him for a signed letter from his local law enfocement agency stating that he is of legal age to purchase the rifle, then you will consider his price.
I truly feel bad for good dealers like you who have to put up with stupid people.
its worthless to me without functional features.
convert it, eat it or find a chump. |
I also feel bad for people that have to put up with stupid dealers. Maybe we could get the stupid people to only shop with the stupid dealers. |
Ask him if he wants you to just send $500 worth of rifle and he can get the rest elsewhere.
Ahem.... After explaining to him that the rifle would now be offered in PREBAN config for the SAME PRICE |
Instead of taking a $500 loss on it just go out an buy a new barrel for about $150 or less. You can get a folding stock for way less than $100. Why give this sonofabitch a $250 profit? You can even wait to do it. In the meantime you still have a good functional weapon. Take your time on the conversion if you want. You now have a "grandfathered" receiver.
I do that. I refer local PITA customers to local PITA dealers. "I'm sorry sir I don't have that item/can't help you, let me recommend someone who can..." |

Steyr,
It doesn't matter if the pre-ban configuration is available for the same price. The fact is he has to convert it. As such, the only place you will be expected to sell that rifle for the price you're asking is in a state where it's still the only option. Anywhere else, you'll have to sell it for less. That said, I make no comment whatsoever on your chosen price, since I already have my pre-ban and I've not looked at prices for awhile. His request for $500 seems a bit low seeing as the sunset rifles aren't even out yet, and their demand will be high enough in the near term that the prices will stay high for a while. ...and to think I got my Colt lightly used in 1993 for $550... |
HEY, I resemble that remark. |
No I am offering the SAME RIFLE in PREBAN CONFIG at the SAME PRICE. Bascially I can do postban config for those behind the lines or preban config for free America. These are made to order. I should have been more specific. |
After explaining to him that the rifle would now be offered in PREBAN config for the SAME PRICE
my apology! i didn't see where you were offering to convert it. |
No prob. I was laughing so hard I left out some of the facts. |
You likely will need to take some loss on it, because it is in clinton config and therefore worth less than a standard feature rifle (unless you can find a dumb buyer). $500 off seems a little steep, but I think it is most likely worth $100-200 less than a standard rifle.
Sorry-didn't see you offered to convert for the same price |
You can get one for a little more than that if you buy the receiver and parts, and do the work yourself. But not from a manufacturer, or not one that I've seen. |
That's right...depending on what you want on it you can come close to $500...and definately stay under $700 if you roll your own... |

--> CHUMP <-------Insert NY gunowner/slave here I am still in denial that we have BOTH Chuck and Hitlery as our NYS Senators.......sheesssh |
Any more responses from this buyer wanting to "do you a favor" by taking your old "postban" config AR off your hands for $500?
Dealers will probably just mark the NO BANS up $100.00 and make the post bans they got stuck with look more attractive.
I don't see why it would be worth less. Some people will want effective muzzle brakes instead of flash hiders, some won't want either. I think the people are used to brakes and it'll be treated as just one option possible. Not everyone needs/wants the most technically correct military look-alike. Probably the flash hider will be the most common, but that won't eliminate sales without hiders. My 2 cents |
Actually, I'd think that EVERYONE would want a threaded barrel so they have the CHOICE to use a muzzle brake, flash suppressor, sound suppressor or nothing. |
Dealer can price his wares however he wants. Buyer can offer whatever he wants. it's capitalism.
I suspect dealers will find rifles with permanantly attached muzzle breaks/blast enhancers difficult to sell, and will have to lower prices eventually to move the old inventory. |
Steyr --
I can see you are in a pickle here. But being the prince of a man that I am, I am willing to help you out. So just send the rifle to me, and the whole problem will go away..... I know it is a huge favor, but I don't mind doing it. That's the kind of guy I am. |
You're probably right, but I still see some people who will buy the Clinton-config. Actually to prove you right in my case, how tough is it to remove a soldered muzzle brake? |
Hey watch the SKS CRACKS. |
Ah! Well, that changes everything. If you made that clear to the guy, then you're right. He's an idiot. |
Agree to the deal and remove the "offensive" post-ban features (i.e. the entire upper receiver). Then he can spend the $495 he saved for the "conversion."
Guy wasn't actually interested in a preban config rifle. All he wanted to do was convince dealers their postbans were worthless now and buy them at 1/2 price. Just an asshole and I'd prefer not to do business with his kind for any amount of money. |
I think you owe an apology to those of us in the natural state, swap trash. |
Well SteyrAUG we got lots of people who think they can go buy a Colt Pre/post/no ban guns for $600.00 NIB!
It isn't happening though! BigDozer66 |
I'm still not sure I'm done blaming you guys for Bill Clinton and now you want an apology. |
WHAT??? When did that happen??? |
Ask him if he is a member here. S.O. |

I see your $625.50 and raise you a half eaten cookie....... |
