My girlfriend bought me a new PC for Christmas since the one I had before was from 1998.

She bought me a HP that has the following:
80gb hard disk
17"flat screen
cd-rw
dvd drive
AMD processor
512mb RAM

Now I don't know much about PC's at all. But I can tell that this damn thing is really fast.
You think this will last me a few good years?

Its a really nice looking PC. Its like an aluminum and royal blue color (not this means anything to performance)

up ram to 1gb

what speed is the cpu?

might consider a high end graphics card as well if your into gaming. if not then it should be fine.

Yeah. All my gaming is done with my Playstation 2.
It says the speed is 2800+  I think thats the speed.

Cool!

When it comes to computers there is always something better. As long as what you get is an upgrade to your current situation life is good!

the 2800+ is the AMD model, i think in reality that one should be right in the neighborhood of 2.2 GHz but i dont remember the exactly #s

Yours blows the doors off of my PC...nice score.

Good deal, that sounds like one of the ones I was looking at.

With my Christmas earnings I bought a Sony VAIO desktop.

Pentium 4 at 2.66 GHz
256MB of RAM which I plan to upgrade to 1GB soon
120GB hard drive
533MHz Front Side Bus
DVD-RW/CD-RW drive & CD-ROM drive

Sounds like a great range target.

amd's model #'s correspond to the approximate throughput of a p4 w/ that fast of a cpu.

so 2800 = p4 2.8GHz *throughput*

clockspeed probably is around 2.2GHz for the amd, but clockspeed means dick.  (especially w/ a 20 step pipeline - stupid intel)

anyways, sounds like a great pc for your applications.
