I want to go sight in my first AR build, but the range I use to go to won't let you shoot FMJ rounds.  Any FMJ-friendly ranges in the area?

Captain, check out Gibsons at Hwy 80 & Lawson Road (Mesquite).  You will need to go about 4-5 miles down on Lawson road just past the catfish farm and across from the racetrack.  They have 50-100 and 200 yard targets plus a pistol range.  Cost is about $10 for a one year membership then about $8-10 for each range visit.  Its a well run, safe range and they do allow FMJ, one of the few in the area.  Phone if I remember correctly s 972-222-8127.

OT: What do are these ranges against FMJ ammo?

I think its the ricochet risk, or something.

The range I used to go to is Garland Public Shooting Range.  Its an outdoor range right around a bunch of residential neighborhoods.  I can't really blame them for being picky about FMJ rounds- I'm surprised it even exists in this day and age.  Thanks for the info on Gibson's.  I'll try them out tomorrow hopefully.

Go to the hometown forum for Texas and look around in there. Several threads there will help you out.
