O.C. Reserve Deputy Suspended From Duty

Arrested For Allegedly Threatening Golfers With Gun

Aug 5, 2005 7:13 am US/Pacific
SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) An Orange County sheriff's reserve deputy has been suspended from duty after he was arrested for allegedly pulling a gun on a group of golfers in Chino Hills.

Raymond Yi, who is Sheriff Michael Carona's martial arts instructor, turned in his badge and his department-issued gun Tuesday.

He faces several charges stemming from Sunday's confrontation, including assault with a firearm, making criminal threats and brandishing a firearm.

Yi got into a dispute with a group of golfers when he became upset over their slow play. He allegedly flashed his badge, pulled his gun and threatened to kill them.

Yi was named a reserve deputy in 2002 after being referred by Carona.

What a dumbass! Who thought it was a good idea to make this kook a reserve Deputy?

It's odd to hear of a martial artist losing self control.

Makes me wonder what the "whole" story is.

Another story said the victim picked up the reserves ball and threw it off the course. The reserve approached the victim and asked him to retrieve his ball. The victim refused so the reserve drew down on him and ordered the victims friends to retrieve the ball or he would shoot the victim.

That had me worried until I read the whole article. I'll give my brother a call to see if he has any more info on this incident. He is a reserve deputy in the O.C. (Oh man am I gonna heckle him on this one!)

I love a good game of golf, if I have enough 30 round mags.

Luckily he just drew his pistol and not his ninja sword - you can't resheath it without drawing blood.

You see, now the reserves actions appear much more reasonable.

Ninjas are mamals and are always flipping out and killing people. In fact they can kill anyone they want to. I can see why the Sheriff would want to appoint a ninja as a reserve Deputy.

In all seriousness the political appointees like Hood, Haidl, Jaramillo, and now Yi are likely going to cost the sheriff his job. They have already ruined his greater political aspirations. That's too bad becuase i voted for him (twice) and and really believe he's a good man who for unknown reasons surrounds himself with some very troubled men.

I have an aquaintance who is a deputy in OC. Cool guy. OC sounds like a rougher place in real life than on MTV.

Yep

There is a local lawyer who has been arrested - twice - for wigging out on the golf course and going after guys playing ahead of him with a golf club. The last time, he hit into a foursome on the putting green, narrowly missing one of them, who kicked the offending ball into a sand trap. The lawyer jumped into his cart, bailed out when he reached the green, and went after the kicker with a wedge.

I'd have shot him dead. Heads break more easily than you think.

I've always thought that having snipers
monitoring the tee's with a 15 second
grace period would speed up play

A golf course is a waste of a rifle range. The deputy was wrong in bringing a handgun to a golf course. He needs to bring a long gun like a shotgun if he wants to hunt quail.
