We are going to run it, and make sure it works, but beside checking for leaks, what else do I need to check? Should the blades be sharp? square? etc? Anything else I should check out?

Buy a TroyBilt with the rear tines, about 8 hp minimum. Preferably electric start.

Unless you're going to use it quite a lot, rent it.
