So yeah, gonna finally buy one of these fancy video games the kids have wanted, but which? Wii seems a little lacking in the graphics department for me, and the Xbox could issue handjobs and I wouldn't like it, because I hate the word "X" in things, it's ghey. So I was thinking of a the Play Station 3, of course. Then I'll also have a nice Blu-Ray player. They have some nice packages for sale. But what a bout the gigabytes? Why do I need more gigabytes in my HD? I'll probably get the 320GB one anyhow, but what do I need gigabytes for?

You use HD space saving game data and if you download content from the playstation store (demos, movies, etc...)
Just get the smaller HD. Sony includes directions on how to swap it out. You can use the same HD as your desktop computer if you really need to upgrade. ETA - PS3 is a great choice over the XBox or Wii in my opinion. You can now stream Netflix to it without a disc, which used to be an XBox only feature. Its also very easy to hookup to your wireless network and stream music and movie files from your home computers. |
|
Get the PS3. It doubles as a Blu Ray player if you want to do something otehr than play games.
Get the 360 for better games. Get the Wii for more weirdness. |
|
Buy the PS3 and get some cheap HDMI cables if you have a HDTV
You don't really need a whole lot of GB if you play online a lot... but this being for your kids, I don't know, I rarely play campaign modes and don't know how much space that uses up |
|
The Wii is mostly for small children. Not much game selection for older kids and adults and it does not play DVDs 360 is very good, excellent games, graphics but suffers from a high burnout rate |
|
Wii and PS3 here...the wife really wanted the damn wii, it got used for 6 months now it takes up space.
The PS3 is nice, and with it's new Move software/hardware it can pretty much do everything the Wii can, better. I believe 360 now or soon will have something similar and is supposed to be the best movement/gaming experience out there. Wii is a pure waste of money, trust me. |

Xbox rrod and gets fixed for free.
PS3 yrod and cost $150 to get fixed. |
|
I've got all three in my house.
I don't think I've turned the xbox on since I got the PS3. |
|
PS3 if you want free online, but less quality games
XBOX 360 if you want more quality games, but you pay for online play WII if you are 8 years old or are a woman who likes stupid games. |
|
360 is my favorite, but I havent played PS3. I chose mainly baed on the games.
|
|
PS3, for two reasons...
BluRay, and because there is no fee to play online. |
|
I love my PS3!!
I have it hooked up to my home theater system and use it for Blu-Ray movies, streaming Netflix, playing games, listening to Pandora..etc. It has replaced my DVD player, CD changer, my PS2 and my Wii. Get one, you'll love it. |

Exact opposite here - bought a PS3 (well, got it as part of a store credit for a TV that had to be replaced - got my money of the extended warranty on that one), but mainly as a blue ray player. The games I like are on Xbox. Figure out what games are interesting to you and your family, then go with that console. |

Hello,
I own both, and prefer the PS3. Blu-Ray (I'm a movie buff), internet, netflix (xbox has it also), and great games. I bought the Playstation Move stuff (motion controls like th Wii) for my brother's birthday, and it is very fun, especially the Gladiator combat game. The only reason I have an xbox is for Halo, and Gears of war. Also buy the Playstation with the smallest hard drive and swap in this Western Digital 640gb hard drive. Works great and gives you a whole lot of space (it's super easy) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136459&cm_re=wd_scorpio_blue_640gb-_-22-136-459-_-Product |

My 360 has been owned for years and gets played nearly every day, with dozens of games. My Wii hasn't been turned on since around January. |

I'm an Xbox guy, I've never been into Playstation.
The newer Xbox models seem to be much more stable than the older, RROD-prone consoles. Since release of the newer models I've seen and heard very few complaints. XBox Live isn't free but it supports a very large online gaming community and IMHO is worth the price of admission. If you to watch hi-def movies, PS3. If you want a huge game library, Xbox. |

With the exception of Halo, which I have no interest in I can't really think of a big name title that has been Xbox exclusive lately. |

it has been mentioned in several posts that the online for PS3 is free and that you have to pay for x-box live.
I dont have a PS3, but it is my understanding that the Playstation Network sucks real hard compared to the epic awesomeness of xbox live. i think my membership is like $5 a month, well worth it in my opinion. FWIW I was a playstation fanboy until Halo 2 came out and some of my friends insisted that I buy an xbox so I could play with them online. I have not played a single thing on a playstation since then. |
|
It all depends on two factors AFAIC
1. Do you play more FPS games or do you watch more movies and play other types of games? 2. Which console do most of your friends own? FPS games are no doubt better on Xbox over PS3, i don't watch movies, i play mostly FPS(exclusively actually), and all my friends are Xbox users...so i mostly play my Xbox.... The PS3 i might as well sell...i bought it, played it a few times and it has sat completely unused since. |

Quoted: Xbox rrod and gets fixed for free. PS3 yrod and cost $150 to get fixed. if you are somewhat tech savvy you can EASILY fix most ps3 problems yourself, about the only thing that needs special attn is the power supply. |

I have been slowly edging toward picking up a PS3 so I can play COD4 online with my nephew in California. He demo'd the game for me the last time I was out at his house and it looks pretty cool.

I have a ps3 and a 360.
I prefer the 360, by far. Opinions differ. Also, this is the reason to get a Wii... Warning - link is PG-13, and not ARFCOM botd copacetic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v31qxrXsxv0 |

The only difference is that you get cross-game chat. That being worth $5 a month depends on the user. I'm leaning towards no. |

One thing I like the 360 for in the Media share with home PC's. I can watch movies off my PC with media player on the 360.
|
|
The PS3 is more of an entertainment center in a box.
Don't worry about the size of the HD, if you are going to put a lot of movies, photos and music on it you can upgrade. check Newegg or similar site for 2.5" SATA laptop HD. |

I have an Xbox 360 and overall it's a good console. The games are probably a little better and more plentiful than the PS3 and the online play is probably a little better overall. But most of the common games are available on both systems. So that's only a factor if you are looking for a specific game.
The PS3 however comes with a built in Blu Ray Player and built in Wireless capability. Those are two advantages over the Xbox 360. Either way they are good consoles. If I had to do it over again I might go for the PS3 over the 360 but I'm not disappointed with my 360. |
