It looks like it's going to miss us. (probably shouldn't have said that)

If you guys  know anyone that needs shelter from the storm let me know.

You've jinxed Chucktown now!

I'd personally wait till Sunday afternoon to make the call.  i don't know your relationship with your boss, but maybe ensure he understands the potential situation and your concerns prior to just elling him you aren't going.

What part of Charleston you going to? Downtown, James Island, Mount P?

I would go.

I live just a little north  of Wilmington  NC

Yep.  Charleston floods bad downtown too...even without a storm just due to the tide in some streets.

Your boss has chosen to deliberately put you in an unsafe location.  Refuse.

If he fires you, you have the basis for a lawsuit.

But it's your life and safety that is at stake, not his.

You are a big boy, make a decision.

Anytime you have the chance to tell the boss to "FO", take it!!

It's only a Category 1 storm.  Shoot, as SteyrAug put it, us Floridians go shopping in Cat 1 and Cat 2 hurricanes.

Fox news said it may get to Cat 2 before landfall.

Why be combative about it?  If you "have" to go, just advise the boss as far in advance as you know, and tell him succintly why it is important to you.

As another poster said - if you jerked me around about it and told me to FO - I'd know what time it would be for you.

You forgot the great seafood.  You MUST tour the Yorktown - they also have (had) a small sub there you can tour.

If you have a wife and or children don't go.  Otherwise take a camcorder and hope you live to sell the tape.

I toured that sub on a family vacation not long after it was opened.  My dad kept banging his head on the plexiglass that covered the doorways of each of the display rooms.  How come your parents become complete morons when you turn 13?  It's as if they trying to embarrass you whenever the get the chance.  I guess I have ten more years before I become a moron.   [/hijack]

Down-town Charleston during a thunderstorm, guarentees a free underbody wash for your vehicle as you pass over the manholes in the road.

Saltwater underwash

The worst is coming across the connector from James Island and merging down onto Lockwood toward the Battery...argghhh, glub, glub, glub.

I've been through a few Cat 1 and Cat 2 hurricanes.  The last one was Erin, August 2 1995.  I was about 10 miles from where the eye came ashore.  They're really not that bad.  Some downed trees, a lot of rain.  Whoopee shit.  Disney World was up and running that morning when we checked in.

Now a Cat 4 or 5?  Fuck 'em.  I'm OUTTA THERE!

Your boss has chosen to deliberately put you in an unsafe location.  Unknown at this point. Refuse. Again too early to tell.

If he fires you, you have the basis for a lawsuit. You probably don't .  Do you have a "hire at will fire at will contract?"  What do you do and what kind of assignment is it?  If it is just a sales call, then refusing might be an option, but if you are a field service rep and the company contract calls for you guys to keep them running, you probably don't have an option.  In any case it's way to early to tell.

But it's your life and safety that is at stake, not his.

You are a big boy, make a decision.  But make it when you have all the information you need.  If it poops out and you refused, who's going to take your side?

If they declare a state of emergency or various evacuations, not going in is not a problem and your boss is going to live with it.  If he is so stupid as to not go with that, then wtf are you doing working for an idiot.  Again wait for the information you need.  I'ld head for the southwest  quadrant and go in ASAP (again depending on the job and assignment) after it passes/. If you are calling on a customer and they aren't there?

Well, it appears that Ophelia is going to skip on by Charleston.

Looks like this thread was much ado about nothing.
