Hey,

He's got the easiest gig in all of Hollywood and he finds a way to fuck it up:

Gilbert Gottfried canned as Aflac Duck voice

Aflac Inc. has fired comedian Gilbert Gottfried, the voice of the Aflac Duck, for insensitive remarks he tweeted about Japan after the major earthquake and tsunami on March 11.

Gottfried tweeted: "Japan is really advanced. They don't go to the beach. The beach comes to them." He also posted: "I just split up with my girlfriend, but like the Japanese say, 'They'll be another one floating by any minute now."

Every time he said "AFLAC!" was a new recording session and more money.

Good work!

First post kinda funny, second, not funny at all.
He's always been a moron though.

He was at the Hugh Hefner roast in NYC a month after 9/11. He told the following joke:

"On the way here, I asked the pilot if he could just drop me off at the Empire State Building."

Epic silence, followed by groans, followed by a crowd starting to turn on him. He saved his own ass by launching into the most fantastic telling of "The Aristocrats" known to man.

The second one was bad, but the first one, read in his voice, is hilarious.

Did he do that on the Howard Stern show?

Lol
Too soon I guess

As did I. I'm waiting for someone to post another rant about how pathetic and classless we are.

Poor Gilbert, from what I understand he needs a job.

I guess any good comedian is one or two jokes away from being fired from a corporate gig.
Link Posted: 3/14/2011 3:11:03 PM EST
Morbid humor.......It is funny
Link Posted: 3/14/2011 3:11:51 PM EST
It doesn't matter what he says, its his voice. I change the channel, turnoff the radio, whatever I have to do to get away from that voice!
Link Posted: 3/14/2011 3:13:57 PM EST
Humorous joke for sure but when you are suckling the teat of a fairly mainstream corporation as a insensitive comedian, you gotta self edit yourself so that you don't laugh yourself out of a paycheck.
Link Posted: 3/14/2011 3:19:28 PM EST
This is what happens when corporate types don't do their research. The dude is funny as hell but he's sure as hell not tasteful or restrained.

Either accept him for what he is or don't hire him in the first place.

And I'd love to hear that telling of the Aristocrats!

A woman is lying in bed with her husband. They're lying in bed together, the husband turns to the woman and he goes, 'Could you please give me a blow job?' And she goes, 'If I gave you a blow job you'd never respect me.' He goes, 'I would respect you. We've been married for 20 years; please give me a blow job.' She goes, 'You're not going to respect me.' He goes, 'We've raised two beautiful children.' And she goes, 'No, I don't think you'll respect me.' He goes, 'I promise, I swear to you, I'll respect you.' So finally she says, 'OK,' and she gives him a blow job.' Afterwards she goes, 'Well did I do it OK?' He goes, 'How should I know? You're the cocksucker.'

He was most likely fired because Aflac is Japan's second largest insurance provider. I wonder if they'll get someone else to start saying the voice or if they'll change the company mascot.

Timing.

The key to funny.

Too bad, Dumbass

When I need a laugh I pop in his "movie" Dirty Jokes. Funny stuff.

They could just drop the character entirely. Ever notice the Geico cavemen aren't around anymore?

His humor has always been very dark. I'm surprised those comments would be any worse than jokes he's made in the past. He's made multiple cringe worthy jokes about Jews dying in death camps in WW2.

Yep. I raffed.

I thought he was dead.

After Pee Wee Herman was busted masturbating in a porn theater, Gottfried was a presenter at some awards ceremony and he said "If masturbation is a crime, then I should get the electric chair."

This. He's actually been a very edgy comedian throughout his career. They had to know before hiring him, or apparently they just think he does the occasional disney voice.

Gallows humor never bothered me.

Aflac derives 75% if it's revenue from Japan.

There is a great interview on the Howard Stern show of this Jewish woman who was furious at Gilbert because he started doing holocaust jokes while he was trying to pick her up.

Meh, I guess you gotta know what your employer will put up with. He was comedian first, and last time I checked, insensitivity was part of some of their schtick.
Link Posted: 3/14/2011 4:25:51 PM EST
No great loss, how hard is it to find someone that quacks like a duck?

Cue the guy who started a thread "everyone talking smack about Japan needs to STFU".

Gottfried has access to Farnsworth's device.

If you listen to his Stern appearances, this is his typical behavior.

Never could stand him.

Really? My aflac agent told me 3 weeks ago he had been fired
Link Posted: 3/14/2011 5:08:35 PM EST
Norm McDonald would likely do something like that.

This bit showed up on the SNL anniversary show and shows how unpredictable he is.

Well he's out hundreds of thousands of dollars a year now.

Until this thread, I had no idea that was him, or who it was. I knew the voice sounded familiar though..

they hire an edgy comedian to be their voice and get upset when he's edgy? wtf?

He did some great stuff in National Lampoon.

I can't stand his voice...

That said, I laughed at the first and repressed a smile at the second.
