Ghostly image at Britain's Hampton Court
Surveillance footage shows spooky figure shutting doors

The Associated Press
Updated: 12:52 p.m. ET Dec. 19, 2003LONDON - A haunted castle is a ghost story staple, but security guards at Britain's Hampton Court Palace think they've got the real thing.

advertisement

Surveillance footage at King Henry the Eighth's one-time home shows a spooky figure shutting some fire doors that kept opening mysteriously.

Palace officials say they're at a loss to explain the eerie image, but insist it's not a Christmas hoax.

The 16th-century palace has a haunted history.

It's where the king's third wife, Jane Seymour, died, and where his fifth wife Catherine Howard was jailed for adultery.

One palace guard calls the whole situation "quite unnerving."

Wow, a picture of a ghost from a credible source... thought I'd never see it.

Ok, it's ghost story time.  Let's hear the personal experiences with ghosts, aliens, demons, bigfoot, the yetti, the loch ness monster, swamp thing, etc.

No, your ex-wife/girlfriend or your mother-in-law don't count.

Ha, I just did a search and that is a very famous ghost.  There are a lot of sites where scientists and researchers try to give explanations for the sightings and sensations people get when visiting the castle... I wonder what they'll say about this one.  I'm sure a lot of well-educated jaws will drop open.

I checked the Ammo Oracle, but it wasn't any help.  Does anyone know what the most effective ammo for ghosts is?  Or should I start looking into a tactical vacuum cleaner?

Ghosts are not material beings, they are pure spirit, or perhaps an energy phenomenon, so bullets won't work. So how to deal with them?  Ignore them and let them do their thing.

From my wife's brother's family Christmas letter this year: (Note - their family went to DC this summer, and toured many sites in our nation's Capitol. "Alex" in the story is our 11-year-old nephew.)

The most intriguing thing about our trip occurred after we were back home and developed our pictures. Alex took our sole photo of the Old Supreme Court Chamber in the Capitol Building, a room no longer used but restored to original condition with period furnishings (1820-1860). Whe we looked through our photos we were all shocked to see figures dressed in period attire seated in the justice's (sic) chairs. There wasn't anyone (mannequins, etc) in that room when we viewed it and snapped the picture (before you say we just aren't remembering correctly: I've confirmed the chairs were empty witha anumber of people who were there at the time we were, although I haven't been able to locate anyone else who actually took a picture.) It's something I would never have believed if I hadn't witnesses (sic) it firsthand, but it's definitely not a hoax. Our only explanation (or rationalization) is as proof of life divine and the supernatural.

I must say that I got chills when I read the letter. My brother-in-law and his wife and kids are about as straight and honest as you'd ever want to meet, and I have no reason whatsoever to doubt them in the least.

You tell them they don't exist or to walk towards the light.

I hear that ticks them off and causes a 'reaction'

WEll, to stun and capture that bastard, you'll neeon a proton pack.

Preferably, you'll have a team of properly trained professionals, with each one outfitted with a proton pack to effect the capture...

Once properly stunned, a ghost trap will be required.

It could be a ghost, but before I am convinced, they'd have to rule out any possibiliy of a guy with a really nice costume who managed to get in.

The Photo itself proves nothing. Any schmoe with a costume can stand in a doorway.

Now if it was a video and the guy came out and just faded out while walking towards the camera......yeah, that would do a hell of a lot to impress me.

Dr. Peter Venkman: Why worry? Each one of us is carrying an unlicensed nuclear accelerator on his back.

So, get a nuclear accelerator and you should be able to catch one.

Dr. Brown(paraphrased): "Well, maybe in 2003 you can just walk into any corner store and buy a nuclear accelerator, but here, they're a little hard to come by"

I saw the video clip on MSNBC.  If I remember it correctly, it's not just a guy standing in a doorway.  First, the doors open by themselves, and out of nowhere, this figure showed up closing the door.  I think that's what happened.  My memory might have failed me, tho.
