Ok I have a question for all you military historians. I have read a few magazine articles and some online text about the Geneva Convention. These articles captured my interest in the Convention. I still do not know much about it, though. What's the significance of it? What kind of things are in the Convention's articles? Is it important? I have heard from someone that Geneva has no significance in today's world. Is that true? From what I've ready I believe it is. I admit my meager knowledge of this matter, as I could be very wrong. Can you historians explain this for me?

That's the text for the 1948 version, at least as far as POWs are concerned. There are other conventions for civilians and non-combatants.

Our likely opponents in war will probably not obey it. I really can't see al Qaeda or Iraq caring a whit. We're still bound by it, though.
