Gemini 8 mission practicing docking maneuvers. The craft starts spinning out of control at a rate of up to 60 rpm. Armstrong takes control of the situation and saves the mission and the lives of himself and Scott.

Neil Armstrong was a pretty cool customer. Anybody interested in space stuff should read the annotated transcript of the moon landing, with the main guys commenting on what was going on.

The short version of that is that where they were going to land had a big rock, that if they landed on, they wouldn't have been able to take back off because the angle would have been too great. Neil essentially takes over manually and flies the LEM into a good position, with the strong assistance of Aldrin. When they landed, there wasn't much gas left in the tank.
