PRINGFIELD, Mass. – A natural gas explosion has leveled at least one multistory building in the largest city in western Massachusetts and injured at least eight people.
A spokesman for Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno says there's no word on whether there have been any fatalities in Friday evening's blast.
A spokeswoman for Baystate Medical Center says eight people are being evaluated in its emergency facilities and none has critical injuries.
The explosion sent bricks and glass flying through downtown streets. Police Sgt. John Delaney says authorities are evacuating the commercial and residential area.

I'm busting out my tinfoil for that Indy incident.

I just read that they are condemning 30 something homes because of damage. There has to be more to this then they are letting on.

When the house has been pushed off the foundations it is not going to be worth fixing and every home facing that one probably got blown off the foundation. I would be the insurance companies are just not going to be given as much wiggle room, here. Perhaps the only insurance company that will have to pay is the one of the homeowner who caused it? That may just be up to the limit of their insurance.

The houses right around the blast I can see that kind of damage. 30 houses is a very big area considering the lot sizes there.
