On the UFC Unfiltered podcast, of all things, creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss revealed that they're delaying the start of production for the upcoming season, meaning the show may return later than March or April, as it has in past years. "We don't have an air date yet, but this year will likely be a bit later," the showrunners said. "We're starting a bit later because at the end of this season, 'Winter is here' — and that means that sunny weather doesn't really serve our purposes anymore. So we kind of pushed everything down the line, so we could get some grim, gray weather even in the sunnier places that we shoot." The scene below with Sansa and Theon was shot in August in N. Ireland. A little cg, some blue filters, and a lot of fake snow make it work. |

I'm guessing it is quite a bit less than that when you factor in adblock users and actual pre roll views. That said, the channels that really put the effort in (a little bit of social media, and reactions to other big series) get HUGE numbers.....500,000 to 1,000,000 per episode. It's one of those YouTube sweet spots with very little production time/effort and big views across the board. Some examples of the big ones: Part 2 - Battle of the Bastards filmed at a bar (1.1 million views in a week) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cK3P3E05xac This couple doesn't even show the episode view (just two people sitting on a couch) (232,000 views w/4K subscribers in one week) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yeV4LoYJ77c View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Little tip if you guys want to make a little extra scratch next season. Reaction vids. Even the smallest channels on YouTube (150 subscribers) get 15,000 to 30,000 views on the big episodes (and 5,000 to 10,000 on the lesser ones). The trick is to be overly excited, angry, etc. So.... First viewing: Recorded second viewing: ETA: It also must have the view of the episode somewhere on the screen. Under 10 minutes falls under "fair use" and won't get pulled for copyright infringement (so there will be some editing required). So how much do you make for that amount of views? $1500 to $3000 for the big episodes, and $500 to $1000 for the smaller ones. I think if they are close that might motivate them to pick up the pace, but if they are looking at a July start date then I doubt it will matter. Besides, it's not like they would miss entering S7 for the Emmys. Just instead of 2017 it would be 2018. I'm sure the extremely weak competition would love GoT taking a year off. |

D&D did an interview with the UFC Unfiltered podcast today (they are big UFC fans apparently). Surprisingly good interview. - When asked about the number of shows left, they couldn't give a definitive answer other than (as the episodes are going to take longer to film, edit, etc.) the seasons will be shorter to some degree. - Gendry is still rowing. - They are starting filming later for this season to better portray winter in Westeros. Because of this, season 7 will debut later than previous seasons (They don't have a hard debut date, but they balked at the mention of April). Showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss revealed that production on the HBO fantasy drama is going to start later than expected. Dumb & Dumber said they showed the first pilot to someone and asked them what should they change and the response was "everything." They changed it so much that, IIRC, the only scene Sophie Turner was in the first pilot that made it in second pilot was the scene where she meets Cersei during the feast which is why she looks younger there than in the rest of the season. |

Tone of the scene and language/script is quite different than what we ended up with in Ep1 and Ep2. It works as an introduction to both Sansa's and Arya's character traits and they ended up going a completely different direction, which renders the scene redundant and unimportant. As all of the other auditions are important scenes in developing the characters and made it into the final/aired version, knowing that this one didn't points to an early and very different adaptation. ETA: IMHO, one of the likely reasons the first pilot sucked was trying to use too much of the text for dialog. ETA2: Part of Rory McCann's audition was also changed from the final Ep1 and Ep2. He has talked about D&D fundamentally changing how the character was introduced compared to his audition/original script that followed the books. |
