A friend brought these over for my viewing. I ended up buying the 1903A3 and the Persian Mauser. The 03A3 looks really nice and the Persian is unfired. The 1813 French Breech Loading Musket was very interesting and strangely beautiful. The Johnson wasn't matching so I passed.

Johnsons look like pregnant M1 Carbines.  I'd love to get the chance to shoot one.  It's a piece of history.

I still can't understand how they can be reloaded while shooting......

or so that's what I've read.

They mean as oppossed to a M1 Garand. Detachable mags can be swapped out or topped off.

If you have 1 round left in your Garand, you have 1 round unless you want to eject it and load a fresh clip.

The concept is no different than that of a tube mag'd pump or auto shotgun.

Yes that. The shotgun magazine tube was a better analogy than mine.

There was an article in the July 2005 American Rifleman about the Johnson Model of 1941 LMG and the Johnson rifle.  Very interesting.  I'd love to get that '03.

Better sig line.

I'm more of a Mauser fan but .30-06 is a great cartridge. A 1903 and a Persian. How much they cost ya?

If I tell what I paid, will I get a bunch of guys telling me how I overpaid and how they bought a mint unfired one just like it that was owned by Gen. Patton for $150?

I paid $875 for the Persian w/ matching bayonet. It's all matching, 99.8%, appears unfired, mint bore, has  2 or 3 minor stock mars, and not import marked.

I paid $875 for the 1903A3. It appears all original and all correct. It has a two groove bore. Excellent bore, Not importer marked. From the looks of the bolt, it appears to have been fired maybe 500 rounds. I'd rate it about 99% overall. It's not an arsenal rebuild.

We agreed on $1750 cash for both. Then I offered him a 70's 98% Colt Huntsman 6 inch and a 99% Sig P245 plus $900 cash, or the $1750 cash. Which ever he wanted. He took the $900 and the two pistol.

For a while we were throwing out all kinds of deals and possible trades (including the Johnson). After a few drinks, a calculator comes in handly when your talking about thousands of dollars with 5 or 6 guns involved.

Yes you will.

I was very poor for many years. I used to finance my guns when I bought them.  In 1980, I ordered a brand new FN FAL for $1090 and financed it at the bank for 12 months. At the time I think a new Colt AR15 was about $325 so that was alot of money for me. Also, at the time I think my car payment was about $145. My FAL payment was about $105.
