If it looks anything like this get it cultured for MRSA. When you can't always be clean MRSA can nail you. If it is MRSA everone in your unit could catch it and it sucks to have it. It starts with a feeling like you got bit and them a little hard bump and then it becomes a big knot in your leg. Once you have it you need to stay clean and change and shower every day as it can come back at any time. If you do have it they need to give you Bactrim for at least a couple weeks and you need to wash every day with Hibiclens for at least a week and use Bactoban ointment in your nasal cavity for ten days OR it will be right back. I got MRSA last year from a girlfriend that boards dogs at her house and I had no idea how dirty her house really was. I am 4 months clear now but I don't do the things I used to do as I don't want another infection. If what you got looks like this you need to take this seriously because if you don't eliminate it it can become extremely resistant to ALL antibiotics and then you are screwed.

One more shot of how bad this shit gets, it is also painful. Make damn sure they culture it when they drain it as my first outbreak of it was diagnosed as a spider bite and I got about a third of the treatment I should have got. When you first get this it feels like you were bitten with a stinging pain in the center, feels just like a bite.

Link Posted: 6/2/2010 11:54:30 PM EDT
Better get it looked at.  Otherwise, they're going to cut off your leg and rename you, Eileen.

Stay safe.

They are mine that was mis diagnosed as a spider bite and I had two severe infections before the Dr got it right, I actually figured it out and got tested and asked to be treated in a certain way. It is serious shit as it is a communicable thing and when draining it can get someone else infected.

Good info, I ask the Doc tomorrow.  Seems to be clearing up, at least it isn,t as painfull.

I had a camel spider in my bed when I was in Kuwait.

Fuck those things.

Hope you recover, whatever it was. Lots of critters in the sandbox that can fuck you up.

There is only one good thing I can think of about MRSA, if you've got it before you are supposed to get your own hospital room for the rest of your life if you have to go.

Interesting, those "camel spider" bite photos look like they were lifted from a website about brown recluse spider bites.

They were indeed.

Camel Spiders (which aren't actually spiders) are not venomous.  Infection from a bite is always a possibility, but those pics are of advanced necrosis from Brown Recluse venom.

And recluse spider bite photos are frequently mismarked MRSA infection shots.

I've actually seen that thumb pic described as all three.  For whatever reason, it sort of stuck in my memory.

I think it just reinforces the necessity to seek professional medical guidance and follow up aggressively with any treatment recommended.

Yup. Been there, done that myself. Caught mine when I was in the hospital for a simple day surgery.

Six months of fighting it with Bactoban and sulfates. Mine centered around my arm pits and groin. Dozens upon dozens of nodules that are near rock hard, tender, and sore like a mofo. You never truly get rid of it, just kind of goes dormant. Whenever I get a little bump or feel a little knot I immediately begin worrying about it being back. Scarred up my beautiful skin pretty good. Now I have discolored spots and my skin texture just isn't the same.
