So how many of y'all have a foot in this community and the GORUCK community?

I've wanted to go to one of the events, but live in the middle of nowhere.  I'll make it to one someday.  I do a lot of rucking in the summer months.  I actually enjoyed rucking when I was in the army.  Maybe I'm crazy

I've done three Challenges, a Heavy and own a GR1.  I drink the GORUCK kool-aid.

I've used it as a way to push myself beyond the physical boundaries that I had set in my head.  And putting the event on the schedule gets me to train harder that I would otherwise in preparation.

I've done a Light and am training for a Challenge now.  I really enjoy it.  :)

They just released the 2015 schedule.  I really encourage you to see if something is close to you, ND.  I'd also say that reading the AARs and asking people who have done challenges is key to setting yourself up for success.  I was very nervous showing up for the Light but I had been walked through what I needed to pack and how so my gear was SAT.

Toyota, what are you looking at next?  I'm aiming for a Challenge in Florida in the spring and if my house sells we're talking about doing the Normandy D-Day event.

I have done a challenge and own a GR1. I use it all the time. Great bag and even better community.

Never done one but I've been trying to convince myself to get a gr0. You guys that have them, worth the $?

I have a GR0.  I'm 5'8" and if I were any taller I would consider a GR1.  As it is I only use it for rucking and have no intention of doing a Heavy (I will NOT be a "permanent" flag bearer ;) ) so I don't need the extra room.

As for cost I think if you are putting the bag through the shit then absolutely spend the money.  The guarantee on it is solid and the workmanship is very sturdy.  Oh... but don't wash it in a washing machine with an agitator.

Thanks, there's actually one about 4 hours from me this summer.  I'll have to see what I'm working, but I'm going to try to go.

It looks like a pretty average, yet expensive frameless backpack.

What am I missing here besides a good advertising campaign?

ND, are you going to do a Light or a Challenge out of the gate?  I ask because if you are planning on driving the four hours there, doing a Challenge and then driving four hours back you might want to consider renting a room.  You'll be exhausted and possibly in a decent amount of pain.  Also, I would suggest you start up a ruck PT workout... follow the videos they have posted on their site under the Training tab.  Rucking long distances is good but almost all of us felt we could have used more PT training and more time under heavier weight.  ;)

konger, these rucks were built and tested specifically for the rigors they would endure being used by SF.  The guy who started the company and the men who lead the events are all former or AD SF.  It's really not hype... time and time again people have showed up for these events with other rucks and they have failed.  The company also has an impressive guarantee that covers any manufacturing defect or failure.  They will also repair them and/or offer another ruck at a discount if it was operator error.

Another thing I didn't know was that after you have completed an event you receive an invite to a closed GORUCK Tough board on FB.  That's when it became more of a community to me.

I completed one Challenge so far, the July 4th one in Jacksonville.  Probably a mistake since it was my third time actually doing a ruck. That said, it was an absolute blast, and kicked my ass in the best way possible, I just wish I didn't have to go straight home and onto work afterwards.. I'm lucky in that headquarters is less than two hours away, so there are plenty of events locally. I want to go do more, but change in employment has left the fun money bare for a bit, and looking like Uncle Sam will give me some free rucking experience in the next few months.  As for the gear, it looks like it will go through hell and they have an amazing warranty to back it up. But my broke ass still can't justify spending and real coin on a pack, as it was I was the guy with a molle frame pack, which was an absolute mistake. You want something light that you can get on and off easier/faster.

I highly encourage everyone to try at least a light at some point, just make sure to prepare for it, it will wear on you. The cadre are all legit former or active sf and the few I've met were great. It's a great community and I hope to be able to go again soon. They are also starting a rucking 5k soon, and I'm hoping I can make that before my ship date.

Funny, I saw a Range Rover with a vanity "GORUCK" plate yesterday.

My first challenge was the Tampa Mogadishu Mile last month and I own a GR1. Thinking about the Tampa heavy in 2015 and probably a goruck 5k or two in the coming months.

Rucking beats running

I love lifetime guarantees, but they aren't everything if the product isn't suited for the task. There's only so much you can carry in a ruck sack without a frame. I'm not sure why the general public would spend $250 on a day pack, when quality internal and external frames are available for the same or less. Unless you're getting shipped to the sandbox, that kind of durability isn't needed to walk to the deer stand or hike around the state park. My $15 surplus ruck has held up well for 10 years now doing those same chores.

IDK, maybe It's just me, but I don't see the big deal and especially not at the prices their asking. Not trying to argue. Just throwing in my two cents. If you're happy with the rucks, more power to ya.
