Any revolvers out there for 400ish that are worth a shit?  Specifically 38 spl or 357 mag?

I don't care if they're new, as long as they are reliable.  I'd like a Ruger GP100, but amongst the current bullshit, the prices are high.

EDIT - POST A PIC OF YOUR REVOLVER.

I just picked up a GP100 during the panic for 399. Keep an eye out and be patient, you'll stumble into what you want sooner than you'd think.

I've got the 686+ 4" model, it's a natural pointer... you point it and you're on target.

Any of the S&Ws on the right should be available for under $600

Ruger Security Six, last one I bought was a 4" stainless for $250 OTD.

S&W 642-1 is good to go and around that price.

S&W model 14 that I paid $200 for.

S&W model 65-2 that I paid in the mid $300s for.  It was a police trade-in.  I haven't put many .357 rounds through it, but it is an excellent shooter with .38spl.

The days of cheap police trade ins are also gone...

If you want a $400 .357, you seek a Ruger, but they are not as good as S&W.  If you want a .38, there are more options.  Some S&W K frames chambered for .357 have a rep for damaging themselves with a steady diet of .357.

IMO, the perfected revolver is a 686, although my favorite is a 629.  Mine: (a photo originally taken to show the size of a 1879 Reichs)

Fine guns, but in my AO, used ones are $550-$600, outside the OP's budget.

It is really hard to beat a 686 with a 4 inch barrel. If you can find a prelock one for under $500 you should buy it and run out of the building.

You're gonna have a tough time finding an L-frame less than $500 (I know, I've been trying).  You probably can do a little patient digging and find a K-frame, GP or "Six" series at or near your price range.

I love .357 revolvers. Just picked up a GP100 Wiley Clapp a couple weeks ago. Awesome wheel gun, but a little out of OP's price range unfortunately. Look around and I'm sure you can get a good deal on a used GP100.
eta: I "borrowed" this image off Google just to show what a GP100WC looks like.

Used Smith Model 10 can still be had for under $400, but its getting harder and harder to find one.  Used GP100 maybe, but again, it will take some hunting.  Used Colts can occasionally still be found in that price range.  Like everyting else the revolver market is volatile.  Trackiing prices is difficult.

personal opinion would be a gp-100 or an old security six. i love my security six. shot it yesterday actually. plus, my dad gave it to me before he died.

Like the other posters have said, if you look hard you should be able to find a decent Ruger or S&W at or slightly above your price range. I have both varieties and love each.

i bought an EAA 357.  its very heavy duty.. and has a very comfortable grip...  well worth the $260.   its a copy of a K frame.

They're not for everyone.  I like revolvers for the same reason I like bolt actions, it's easier to make an accurate, cheap bolt action or revolver compared to a semi-auto.  It's also hard to make a big bore magnum semi-auto handgun that doesn't have the weight of a boat anchor.

It's also hard to beat the handling and the trigger of a good single action revolver.  They are about as far from tactical as you can get, which doesn't bother me at all.

I was just recently looking at buying Hogue grips like yours for my 66.  I had a 649 at one time with grips like that and I liked them.  What wood are those made from, so I know what to order?

ETA: Used S&W K-frame would be my choice/suggestion, in your preference of length and flavor (RB/SB, finish, caliber).

There are still some good deals out there to be had... I've found some locally just recently.

Your shelves are in need of some supporting.

Isn't it a COC violation to admit to theft on here?

Yeah I know what you mean.   A friend of a friend had the gun from his recently deceased grandfather.  Supposedly the gun was from the grandfather's security guard job.  My friend talked the guy into selling it rather than "turning it in to the police" and having it destroyed.  So I don't feel bad.

I wouldn't feel bad anyway.

Speed six, security six etc... brick shithouse and can be found sub $400 if you keep an eye out

I recently snagged a mint 25-9 that has been all slicked up in .45 colt  for $525 out the door. I must say I now understand what all this Smith nonsense is about

I have several Dan Wessons.  I like them because I have several barrels for each.  The works inside are fairly simple and I replace the springs over the years as they get weak and it's like a tuneup and cheap.  I can put a 2 inch barrel on for carry or a 6 or 8 inch for the range.

Lots of revolver love here, but most of those sub $300 model 10, model 66 revolvers dried up right after the election in November.

My gf adopted my Australian model 10. But she quit asking about engagement rings.

I've been hunting for a blued 6" GP100.  They turn up on gunbroker for $600+ pretty regularly, so they are available, but paying MSRP or over for a Ruger seems criminal and not worth it for me.

What other options exist for a .357 with a 6" barrel that are in the < $500 ballpark?  Or did those deals all die Nov 2012?
