This phrase keeps getting thrown around.

I have heard the answer "Don't act like pricks" before.

But, does it also mean you give residents breaks on violations? Vehicle or Criminal?

What does it mean to "Serve the public" in relation to this occupation?

"And we're off"

"Not sure if serious"

"Troll"

ETA: Pick one.

I serve the public by answering calls for service. I'm paid to solve or at least attempt to solve their problems and enforce the law.
ETA: in before the police haters.

As much as that is a good answer... it wouldn't fit it some people's eyes here.

I'd guess it means "Stop with the condescension." No, you don't need to give anyone a break, but sometimes it seems that the art of talking down to someone is part of the training an officer receives.

If I remember right, your a LEO as well. Dude, just do your job to the best of your ability. Not everyone is going to like what we do. Just accept it and move on.
Let the haters hate.
