Hell yes! It will get rid of those "add one to your count threads.

Maybe it will even get rid of those "me too" posts as well. Do I really care if a 14 year old named Madd Maxx or the like agrees completely?

How about adding a feature that eliminates mindless "me toos," chest thumping, and preaching the evils of gun control to the choir?

Not that I am anal about post counts or membership, but I have been around a while, and don't want to be percieved as a neophyte.Plus, post counts are still available by clicking on your profile, (that little head symbol), if you really want to see your post count ( at least your post count on THIS current version of the board) I had around a hundred on the "old" board

Either get rid of all symbols of seniority, where noone would have any distinction of longevity, and make us all equals, or show the ACTUAL registration date from the original forum, or tell me to go to hell.

The ACTUAL registration from the old forum was lost when the old site crashed.
That's why all of the registration dates only go back to November 2000.

People who have alot to say generally are not morons, but rather intellectully stimulated individuals who enjoy a hearty conversation with others...[thinking]If you don't have alot to say, than sometimes that means that there isn't alot there for you to say..(Now there are those occasional bad apples who don't fit into the first category stated, as well as there are people who don't fit into the second catergory either...) I'm saying generally people, so dont go and flame me..

One good thing about post counts is that on the equipment exchange it gave you some idea if someone was a regular here or just some fly by night poster. I feel better buying from someone with 500 posts than someone with 5.

Mark me down for the new deal... and as pointed out numerous times, the count IS available if it matters to you, such as in the EE forums...

Most... but note I'm NOT saying ALL... posters who have real high average number of posts per time on board are *usually* (not always) just BW wasters with little worthwhile in *most* of their posts...

If you didn't count all the 'me toos'... 'right ons'... 'btts'... and jes plain 'BS'... the post counts would easily be cut in half...

first, post count has very little to do with the content of the posts. i very rarely add a "me too" to a thread just to get another post. heck, i didn't even post on the "post here and add one to your post count" thread. (great and funny thread, by the way, whoever the author is).

more often than not, and i speak from experience here, it has everything to do with the poster having an opinion and wanting to share it with others, either to reiterate a point with additional evidence or to refute/rebut claims with opposing information, and in some cases, to just be plain stubborn and refuse to give in. besides, there aren't a lot of people who have more posts than me, and all of the ones that i can think of right off hand are great members with (generally) valuable input into the threads. or in some cases, they consistently provide the comic relief for what many times becomes heated discussion (thank you lordtrader). and let's not forget that GD isn't the only forum on this site. more than a few have upped their post count in the other forums.

post count is/was also useful in helping to identify trolls.

solution: have both post count AND date of registration. [:D]
