My AR15 is pretty old. Wondered if there was something you can clean the tube out with for buildup or if just putting a new one in was as simple as removing the roll pin and switching them out?

I am assuming my local gun store would have gun scrub? I guess funneling bore cleaner down it wouldn't do it?

Just in case you were wondering, a new gas tube should run you less than $10.

Or of course you could do the smart thing and leave it alone. There isn't anything in there you are going to get out that the incredibly hot high pressure gas that goes through it won't be able to remove. Trying to clean it out yourself will only serve to mess it up.

Gun Scrubber = Brake Cleaner (Get the non-clorinated kind)

Gun Scrubber @ Wal-Mart = $6
Brake Cleaner @ Wal-Mart = 97 cents

I was just considering carbon buildup. The AR is a serious preban and the tube "looks" crusty. If all I have to do is pop out the roll pin and put a new one in I wouldn't mind doing that just to be anal. Is it hard to get out or does it get locked into place in any way over time?
