I was doing my monthly (sometimes bi-monthly, honestly) carry ammo rotation today.
About two years ago, I realized, "Why the hell don't I have a G18 mag in my G17?" X300? Yep. However, I was still using the standard magazines. No need for concealment. Increased capacity. No real awkwardness. (Compared to holstering and carrying) How many of you guys keep a 33rnd mag in your nightstand 17/19/26? Can you forsee any gaps in my thinking? |

I'd want to put a few mags worth of duty ammo through it before I trusted a mag that long to feed reliably every time.

Doesn't fit in my fas-1 box.
I got a little one roaming around. But I used to. |

View Quote They're a bit awkward, but for a gun you're going to keep in your hand they work well. I'd hate to try to holster it w/ anything other than a horizontal shoulder holster. I've never seen any issues w/ one misfeeding on my G26 or G19. Nobody ever got to the end of a gunfight and said "DAMN! I brought too much ammo!" |

I need to pick a couple of those up. Makes sense to me

"How did having kids change your firearms habits, and does that frustrate you at times?" No little ones in my house, but I certainly respect your responsibility. |

I have one loaded up as a reload for my nightstand gun. Flush fit standard cap in the gun at all times.

The first one I just bought, just because. I didn't really shop around to be honest. I just wanted one in my inventory. When deals came up on the others, I took advantage. |

I have a 170mm 27rd on my bookcase. My gun is 17+1 because it won't stay where I keep it with the "stick mag"

I won't lie, I was really tired one night, having a beer, organizing gun stuff. Looked at one of them and said "Why the hell isn't this in my gun now?" Did it, thought about it again today, figured I'd submit for discussion. |

Why are you rotating out your carry ammo twice a month? Just curious.

My nightstand gun is my Glock 34 with inforce apl and 34 rounds of 135 critical duty it has perfect balance my gf keeps a 19 with a g17 mag in it

My bedside gun is a CZ Scorpion SBR with 30rd mags. I see no point for G18 mags.

Glock 19 with a 33 round magazine has been my house pistol configuration for years.
Loaded with Good Dots and function checked. |

Car gun (insurance appraiser so I drive all day every day making stops at people's houses and such) is a G26 regular mag in it at all times but 2x 33 rounders in the drivers door pocket in case I gotta bail I'll have 76 rounds on me....

I agree it's very often. I just think it's worth it. I shoot FMJ at the range, like just about everybody. I have no delusions about being somebody more qualified than the next guy. My logic is, a mag of SD ammo in a range session, with the actual ammunition I'd be shooting is valuable. Ideally, we'd practice with SD ammunition 100% of the time. That's not cost efficient for most people. Including me. I can spare a mag a month though. |

That's my fault. I shoot my SD ammo every month, or once every two months if I'm lazy on it. Previously posted rationale remains the same. |

hmmmm.....only downside is it's an even WORSE night for the home intruder?
|

The extra length and weight is not worth the extra rounds. If you want to have extended capacity plus retail weight and balance get some Magpul 21s or the ETS 22 capacity magazines.most things in life are compromises. Magazine capacity is one of them.

I use a 33rd mag in my 17L...it's like carrying around a framing square.

I don't see a downside to it if you can shoot the thing with the stick mag's weight accurately.
Is the stick mag OEM? I'd have reservations against cheaper magazines for HD. |

I probably put over 500rds through that pistol, and never once had it hiccup. It was always "brrrrrrrrrrrrppppppppppppp", mag change... |

Yes. However, why are you not using a 50 round drum or a 100 round twin drum? On your AR9 SBR'd carbine w/ suppressor? And the bumpfire stock?
Don't you see where this is going to end, man? |

I keep an ETS 22 round mag in my G34 since the 33 rounder is too long for my pistol safe. 3 young kids in the house.

Especially assuming I'm not carrying reloads on my person in the middle of the night. |
