Both. Some people will make their own. Others will buy them. I know one guy who gets crazy technical with them; built this one lion fursuit with built in night vision, amplified directional hearing, modified leg sort of things with some sort of spring arrangement in them, so you could basically take six foot running strides.

I have no idea how people clean them.

Dude its the new airsoft!
I always wanted to be a mascot at school but my alergies kept me from my dreams.. Now that I'm older and have outgrown them. I now want to peruse one of my life long dreams! Now if I can find some one to make me a koala bear out fit, or for plans of said bear.

I once had a job as the Easter Bunny at the mall during Easter season.

Most miserable I have ever been. Rabbit suit sucked. Giant rabbit head had an unidentifiable smell that nauseated me. I tried spraying it with Lysol and almost passed out on the set from the fumes.

"mom, why is the easter bunny making gagging noises?"

If you want to buy one pre-made you are looking at spending around $1000. For a custom made one from someone who is reputable then that will go up to at least $1500.

Many make their own. I have and you're looking at spending at least 100 hours or more if you want something that doesn't look like it came from a local dumpster. Also you are looking at spending at least $200 in materials for something basic.

Try wearing one and you will find out very quickly that THEY GET FREAKING HOT inside one! Just walking around in one is hard enough. Trying to do x-rated things is only for those who enjoy gettting heat stroke in about 5 minutes. It's fun to let others experince that the hard way and find out quickly what the symptoms of heat stroke are like.

Go rent one from a costume shop and you too can experince all the fun and excitement of heat stroke.

I might post some pics by request so PM me if you really want to see them.

Cleaning them varies on what is used to make it. That can vary from running it through the washing machine on the gentle cycle with some Woolite to very carefully scrubbing it with some type of cleaner. Once it has been washed they are almost never thrown into the dryer since heat will kill fake fur very quickly. The are usually left to hang and dry naturally.

I dated a girl, who was the Marketing Dir, for the VA Zoo.

She said that during the week of Halloween, adults with furry costumes were not allowed on the premises. Seems that it's an underground form of erotica.

No, it's because they sneak into the animal pens and do bad things to them.

Actually it is mud.

The only people who try "yiffing in a fursuit" are the few who enjoy heat stroke.

Actually,
The same folks they were worried about, were the NAMBLA / Child abductor types. Seems they like to dress in furry costumes. The ZOO staff called them "Furries"...I'm afraid to Google it here at work, but she left me with a bad feeling about the subject. So bad, I threw away my bunny suit.

Sorry for postin the info and ditchin. The man in the brown truck had presents for me that required me immediate attention.

He sells them, so I doubt that there are any plans available online (would rather kill his business). Hit up Lion of the Sun for the website; not too much info on there, but there's some pictures. Quoting from another forum, redacting prices so this doesn't become selling outside the EE. I am in no way assosciated with this guy.

I am doing full suits now as well, www.lionofthesun.com my base anthro realistic suit starts at redacted partial suits about redacted - redacted depending on the level of detail.

I only do realistic creatures however, Nothing toony. I send the toon requests to Lacy's fursuits usually.

Now I do have full animatronic packages, ears move, eyes blink , lips snarl , restractable claws for cats and full didgigrade walking packages with energy return (jump higher/run faster)

On the Augmentaion systems, bionic hearing systems with microphones built into the ears, Night vision packages start at redacted to the mask costs and go as high as redacted for the full color mechanical zoom vision systems with the stereo color viewfinders and 90deg arc on each eye and IR sensitivity. On the bionic ear systems I can offer a redacted package that does a frequency shift from ultrasonic 24Khz - 60khz ranges wolves can hear in and moves that sound into the human hearing range. (programmed to operate in the 10 - 20 khz range)

Now if you are planning to run around the woods at night in one of my suits , for an addition redacted I will replace the muscle padding with kevlar to cover both back and front torso legs and upper arms Class III for torso. an adiddional redacted will get you composit rifle strike plating in the front, class I and II for arms and legs. for an additional redacted the mask and head framework will be a pressure formed composit of kevlar and resin (same way they make millitary helmets) . Probly good for class IIa level strike.

Now if youa re looking for a wearcat costume I can make the claws retractable, you have a choice between theatrical system delrin and polyclay claws for about redacted. OR you can go with a Titanium framework with carbon steel claws with "knife lock" systems. Also can make them out of stainless if you want. If you want the claws made out if TI I can do it , but I will have to see about getting them coated in titanium nitride to hold a proper edge/point.

that system will be redacted and you will have to sign a waver. the same witht he digigrade leg systems.

NON anthro creature suits (Aka Kamau) start at redacted for full sut , muscle and body from paddings. all the above is available

YES I CAN DO IT, I have access to a full machine shop incuding a Mazack CNC and I would requite material costs be covered before beginning work. I was an engineer before I was an artist and have allot of experiance working with end mill , lathe ect...

I'll tell you that, looking at his prices, you could buy a new car for less money.

I know several fursuiters; I think it's kind of weird and likely wouldn't do it myself, but furries tend to have a live and let live sort of attitude. I have the same attitude, up to a point. Anyways, a couple common things I see in suits: low RPM computer fans in the head for airflow, and Camelback systems for hydration. These things get insanely hot inside.

DING DING DING!!! WINNAR!

Not to understand that the furry phenomenon is enormously sexual is to be like the 16 year old halloween hookers who expect not to get pwned in the pie hole by sick men.
